HELP!! mac mail app can't add Hotmail?

is there any reason why my mac app can't seem to be able to add my hotmail account??
add account > name/hotmail account/password > added (but does not receive any mail??)

email on safari works fine

Could you provide us with your Mac's OS X version?
Did you update to Mavericks?

Hotmail has since been renamed to Outlook hence the settings of the old Mail might not work.

yep 2013 rmbp latest updates all applied

Try manually inputting the credentials.

System Preferences > Internet Accounts > Scroll down "Add Other Accounts..."

WOW ... Thanks A lot PetPet !!! totally working now , i was in school just now using the school's wifi and it didn't work (for some reason a ! showed up for both gmail and my hotmail) , somehow using home wifi seem to have solved the problem. Thanks again totally a life saver!!
