Well, first things first, your results aren't sh*t. I got 19 for L1R4 lol.

2nd is, if you can't study or memorise well, don't go to JC. That's all I have for you.

Do something that you're interested in. No interest no point. So you have two interests already. Between the two, do as much research as you can. Honestly don't bother retaking o levels. You have NS..

Hi bros,

How do you do NS and study concurrently? Moreover, would it be w disadvantage if I were to enter NS with only an O levels results as compared to my other mates that would have entered with a diploma or A levels?

Why isn't buffalo recommend?

So what's the difference between private Uni e.g: UOL/Royal....and local Uni?

I can't seem to find any course from private Uni in Singapore for Aviation Management, or at least something with aviation + business not aerospace engineering Etc.

What to do guys?

You can only study part time while doing army if your bosses allows it.
It'll only be allowed if you're like a clerk / storeman doing a 8-5 job.

Highly recommend you to go the poly route.

Im currently 23 years old in the army. ORD this year.
Was Normal Acad, went to SP and then army.

haha. Dont feel like a loser. Life sucks, oh well. suck thumb and move on.

If go poly and end up in private Uni, it's not worth it in terms of duration leh. Moreover the chances to go local Uni from poly is very slim........ How ah

Thats where you're wrong.

Dont go with the typical singaporean student mentality that " OH POLY HARD TO GO UNI, so lets forget about it"

If you havent even start poly yet and u have this mindset, then u wont go uni for sure.

It isnt easy to enter a university from poly, i would say. But if you work hard in terms of academic and cca, im sure you would be able to enter poly.

Getting a GPA of 3.5 isnt difficult.

However, getting a GPA of 4.0 is difficult (but it ensures u a placing in uni tho)

Hi Guys,

I'm 18 this year and I just recently completed my GCE 'O' Levels last year as I was an NA student.

My results are
English B3
E Maths B3
Combined Science (Biology, Chemistry) B3
Combined Humanities (Social Studies, Geography) B3
Chinese B4
Food & Nutrition C6
CCA C6

Reason for me to start a thread is because I'm feeling like a loser and I need some help. So to begin with, I screwed O's as I basically panicked inside the exam hall and spotted the wrong topics which explained my crappy results.
Food & Nutrition and CCA was something I was never interested in until the very last year at O levels.

So right now, all this while, I always wanted to go to a JC, but my C6 ruined it all.

Problem right now is I can't decide where to go next, I read many threads about how people made the wrong path acting smart so here I really need some serious help.

All this while I'm keen on Aviation and Business, so I need to chose between these options..

1) Millenia Institute (3 years Pre-U + 2 Years NS + 3 years degree (8years total) (local/private)
This school is really the bottom of the bottom already..

2) Polytechnic (3 years Poly + 2 years NS + 3 Years degree) (8 years total)
I applied to the various poly and I'm still awaiting replies..

3) SIM GE (1.5 years diploma + 2 years NS + 1.5 years degree) (5 years total)
I called them up and realize that they have a thru-train programs with University at Buffalo and I also went to find out about UOL/RMIT/UOSouthhampton etc.

4) retake o levels and go JC (1 year retake o levels + 2 years JC + 2 years NS + 3 years degree) (8 years total)
Retaking can probably go a better JC?

So right now, I can't freaking decide! Like I don't even know what's the diff between local Uni and private Uni. Is it better to save time to go private which is only 5 years or go by the conventional way of 8 years?

Hey bros, help me pls. Plsssss

JC or MI, in the end teachers still come from NIE and you sit for the same A Levels exam. Why do you care if the school is bottom or what? After-all, all govt schools are good schools. Unless you are looking for extra services and opportunities only rich independent schools can provide.

Why are you still waiting for replies from polytechnics? Didn't poly already started school this week? Are you applying through some kind of special scheme or what?

I suggest that you stay within the system set by MOE. Unless you have no other choices then you may consider EduTrust-accredited private institutions.

If you wish to have a higher chance of entering competitive jobs in top companies locally or public service, it will be advisable to attend a Singapore university or attend a top 200 foreign university as an internal student.

If not then, any degree accredited in their own country will do.

Have you checkout the job's degree requirements in the various aviation companies?
Need an aviation management degree or just any management degree?
If you can't find a good aviation management degree locally, what about in a top 200 university overseas?
Singapore universities like UniSIM, although do not have pure aviation management degrees, but have modules like Airport Planning and Management or Air Transport Management which you can take as electives.

Because generally in society, MI is looked on by others. Moreover it's 3 years so others have asked why didn't I pursue a diploma which is the same duration.

Well, I'm trying to enter poly by appealing for admission.

Whenever you mention top 200 university', I noted the word internally, SIM-UOL/SIM-UB is not internal student right?

I wanted to save time initially though, something like killing two birds with one stone since I'm born in 1997 yet I'm just done with O levels whereas my peers who are born in 1997 are already doing their A levels this year. Le sighh

Can go local uni der. Is see which local uni only! NUS n NTU will need higher GPAs but if uu do fine,uu could probably get into SIT. Why immediately assume that uu will end up in private uni?

Even if so, you are only looked down upon for like only 3 years in MI? After that you hold the same A Level cert as everyone else. I doubt anyone will care negatively where you got it from as long as you score well. :D

You didn't apply for poly before that or you got a place but appealing for another course? If you are appealing for another course, then you should be attending school now while waiting for appeal results.

All distance learning degrees (includes UOL/UB) from private institutions are external degrees. If you are not concern with getting a top job, then those degrees are good too.

I don't think you need to think too deep into your age. Universities have a different demographic, different people of different ages are there (same as workplace).
My experience in university is your classmates will not discriminate your age. More like what you can offer them, Are you a fun person? Are you a hardworking person? Are you a resourceful person? Do you have leadership qualities? Do travel on the same route home with them? Etc.

TP has some connections with Lufthansa, you can try taking an Aero course (I don't know the courses available) maybe? And try to make connections through there?

How much effort did you put on for your O's? If you studied like a madman to get those results, I don't think the A level route is for you. If you slacked your way through sec school, then you should be ok in JC or the institutes.

Since you say you want go JC but cant go then go MI la. JC and MI take the same A level what. So what if you go RJC but behkan flung your A level?

Remember this, able to enter is one thing but to survive is another.

Hey man.

Please do take my advice seriously, because I think I can relate somewhat to how you're feeling now.

I just recently graduated from TP, from the course Aviation Management & Services. I graduated with a CGPA of 3.85. I have already received an offer from NTU, and just went for an NTU Scholarship interview today. Still waiting for news from NUS.

Essentially, as much as possible, do not go get a private diploma/degree, as they are nowhere as nearly recognised in the working world (esp. public sector) as the public universities and polytechnics.

Your results aren't actually that bad. I got an A1 for english, and then B3 for everything else, giving me a L1R4 of 13. Even with this, now I have offers from the local unis and perhaps even scholarships, so do not fret, your situation isn't as bad as it might seem.

As for the topic of whether to go JC or poly or MI, I would say that if you find that you can't really study/memorise very well, don't go to JC. As someone else pointed out, its a misconception that its a 'very slim chance' to go to university from poly. It really depends on the course you're applying for. The more popular uni courses like business and law are harder to get in, but of course, still very possible.

By the way, looking at your calculation of how long the entire journey takes, I think you don't know this, so I thought I'd just let you know in case. When you go into university from a local polytechnic, you get credit exemptions based on how relevant your diploma is to the degree course. For example, if you have a diploma in business, and pursue a business degree, you would get about 1 year exemption, making your entire degree duration only 2 years (3 years for honours). Usually though, regardless of the relevance, you would still get at least half a year (one semester) of credit exemptions for most of the local universities.

By the way, I know this since I'm an aviation grad, the best private degree for aviation management in Singapore is by Embry Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU). Go search them up if you'd like.

The most important thing if you choose to go to poly is having the passion in your subject area. If you don't have the interest, it would be much harder to do well. So the final piece of advice I would give you is to always pursue your interests, and you would naturally do well.

Feel free to reply or PM me if you have any other questions.

Actually my dream course is T04 Aviation Management, although I stay at Choa Chu Kang, I'm willing to travel down, as I usually go to Changi Airport to see planes. As of now, SP, NP, NYP and RP is closed. So I'm just waiting for TP to get back to me. But with only 15, chances to enter Aviation Management is slim...

For that private Uni you were referring to, is it recognized?

I don't know why but a few of my friends are telling me that SIM are getting more recognized and when you work in the future its performance based.

Any ideas?

LOL. My O level is worst than you, attained a miserable 24 pts as I failed both Sci and Math (D7). Decided to enroll in MI cause I was rejected by the polytechnics. (RP included!). Fast forward 3 years later and here I am thinking which uni to enroll to since my application for SMU, NTU and NUS is all successful. Who says MI kids can't go to local uni? So yeah, MI is a viable option but you gotta study hard lah
