Help me troubleshoot my PC problem?

Hi all

I think I have a faulty component in my PC (specs on the right). What happens is that my PC screen will suddenly blank out (I see the 'lost video signal' on the screen), then after a few moments the screen will come back on. Sometimes programs running will then have an error and close. Sometimes it blanks out then leads to a PC restart. When it blanks out I can hear the faint 'click' like when you switch resolutions.

Its been happening off and on for the last couple of months, but each incident maybe a few weeks to a few months apart. Starting from last week, its been happening almost constantly, sometimes 5-10 times in like 10 minutes. It happens whether or not I have any programs running. I did try going into safe mode once and it didn't happen so i thought maybe its a software conflict, but one occasion it happened during the POST screen.

I suspect either my graphics card, or maybe PSU. What else can I do to further isolate the problem, or any suggestions? I don't have a spare PSU or GFX else would have tried already.

Without spare, it is difficult to troubleshoot on your own. Best to bring to GS for help.

My guess is your MSI GTX560 going up lorry.

Sometimes the most basic problem might be overlook. Check that all your power connections are properly fitted in.

Hi all, thanks for the replies.

I managed to borrow a GFX from a friend, but unfortunately his card was quite old and had obvious artifacts from the POST screen. Anyway, I could boot up to Windows but when after I installed the video drivers it would just hang before the Win7 splash screen comes up.

After trying a few times, even doing a clean install of the Nvidia drivers didn't work, I put my old card back in. Surprisingly up until now I haven't encountered a single recurrence of the earlier stated problem

Will monitor for a while and see. At the very least it's saved me from having to go SLS tomorrow to pick up a new PSU or GFX
