HELP! Need help to choose course!

Which course is better in SIM-UOL? Accounting and Finance or Economics and Finance? Which one got better prospect when you graduate? Right now I’m leaning towards E&F because I like economics more and willing to put in hard work plus I never done accounting before. Which one has lesser competition?
Btw I am an international student- was born here and been living here for last 17 years. Have a dependants pass. Did UK A LEVEL, grades were B in math and Physics, C in computer science, D in chemistry. Got A in AS LEVEL English Language. What are my chances of getting into one of the two courses? Which one am I likely to get into?

Take accounting. For the simple reason that it is more specialised and you can take the license which means there will be employers that will specifically look for your qualifications. You go and read the job descriptions for jobs in that field - a lot will ask specifically for accounting degrees or ACCA.

Then go and look at the jobs asking specifically for economics degrees.
1. There are not many jobs that only want economists and no one else.
2. Most economics related roles even civil service, they will take in economics 'or related' graduates. Or economics grads with experience or post grad because of the nature of the job. Undergrad economics don't teach you much in terms of technical skills needed for the real world.
3. It's a known fact that many engineering graduates go into economics and banking.

Overall, it's harder for an economics or engineering graduate to go into the accounting field without going for courses etc.

Instead of thinking which is better, a more rational way would be which one are you more likely to get a good honours degree...



Anyway, whether UOL or RMIT (in your previous thread), as long as you can pay they are likely to accept you (since your grades looks ok)....



And UOL degree, to be frank, can be done by self studying (if you are disciplined enough).... if no school wants you, you can always register directly with UOL...

UOL external programs or they call it international programs now are not competitive as they do not have any maximum student intake. If you are signing up with any of the private institutions for tuitions, then some are more selective than others e.g. SIM will be more selective than Stansfields or SAA and so on... the reason is simple cos more are applying to SIM...


In fact, even you do not have A level, you can still sign up UOL under the alternative entry route....

You are on DP, I dont see any issue. The school will take care of your student pass. Just pay.... and they will advise you...

From math teacher and Head Of Department of ALevel at my school... Also decent CCA record, was in school Football/Soccer team for a few years. I know it's very tempting to choose to study what you've background and did relatively well in. Yes, the strong foundation might get you through your uni studies more easily than a brand new subject. But job prospects? I'd rather suffer for 3 or 4 years than suffer having a screwed up career. I know because I felt I chose the wrong degree to study - I chose it just because I got an A for it at A levels. Now I regret.

you'll get accepted into UOL SIM lah. don't need to worry. just make sure you have money to pay for the course.

sorry to say but UOL SIM program is really meant for rejects and failures. Those with a DDD in A levels or 2.0 gpa in poly enter those courses because they got nowhere (Local Uni) else to go.

Sadly My dad opted against taking citizenship or PR here even though I was born here as he wants to move out of here once he retires. So even though grades could’ve been good enough for some local Us I can’t get in as im classed as a foreigner. That’s why I’m worried I’ll get rejected by even then cuz unis here prefer locals even though they may have worse grades

since it's a local U. and when u do graduate from SUSS, find a job in SG and try to get SG PR on your own merits.

have u considered going back to your home country to study too ?
