Help needed... DIY Rig or Asus desktop

Hi bros,

Torn between doing my own rig or buying direct from Asus.
Saw a Asus desktop K20CD-SG017T selling at 899 with the following spec,
✔ Intel® Core™ i7-6700 Processor (8M Cache, Up to 4.0GHz)
✔ Windows 10 Home (64-bit)
✔ Discrete Graphics GT 730 with 2GB DDR3
✔ 8GB DDR4 RAM / 1TB SATA HDD +128GB SSD

Is this a better deal or diy a rig with the same spec?
Main purpose is to do some video and photo editing works.

Replacement / upgrading of components will be limited as it is in a slim form factor casing.

Most probably motherboard and power supply are non-standard size in order to fit into the casing, thus you can't replace with parts bought from retail shops (e.g. SLS). If they breakdown after warranty, you will have to go back to Asus (charges might be quite high) or source second hand.

The slim form factor of the system will also limit the size of any expansion cards that you might want to add in the future (e.g. video cards). You would probably have to look for low profile half height cards which are more difficult to come by.

I have recommended AMD Ryzen R5 1600 in the build below, as it has more cores and threads (6 cores, 12 threads) vs Intel i7-6700 (4 cores, 8 threads). More cores and threads will reduce the time taken for video editing/encoding as well as better performance in photo editing.

The performance of the GT1030 video card is better than the GT730 and GT720, and is part of the current lineup of video cards from Nvidia.

Yes, future upgrade of motherboard and graphics card is possible. The casing can only accommodate iTX / mATX motherboards, so have to take note when you upgrade or change the motherboard in the future.

My experience with ASUS, warranty will void if the chassis warranty seal is broken.

My experience with small form factor, the HDD overheat.

You need a cpu cooler for the 1600X, if not the 1600 has a pretty decent stock cooler

Get the 1600 instead for the stock cooler. If you want the X version, you will need an aftermarket CPU cooler. Can consider Cryorig H7 Quad Lumi if you got the budget. Otherwise the standard H7 also okay as it is cheaper.

I don't think anyone nowadays actually use an DVD, at least I haven't touched a dvd for at least a year

Almost everything is available online these days. If you don't use DVD that often, borrow an external one. If you needed it pretty often, an external one is okay too tbh.

If you have an internal drive lying around, then get the CM Masterbox Lite 3 instead of the 3.1 for the 5.25 inch bay.

Overkill psu sia. How much was it? U could have gotten a 550w at a lower price..
