Hi fellow veteran builders, i have been looking around for parts for my PC build and need to seek some advice on it. :s13:

Most of the time it'll be used for csgo on 1080p @ 144hz, with a second monitor @ 60hz for web surfing/occasional streaming, and hope this build can last 5-6yrs as a bang for the buck PC.

The parts are as below:
Ram: G.Skill RipJaws-V 2400MHz 16gb
Storage: samsung 850 evo 250gb +WD Blue 1TB
Cpu fan: hyper 212x
Casing: Corsair 450d
Psu: SF leadex silver 650w+
Cpu + mobo: i5-6600k on z170 gaming 3? (Undecided on OC or non-oc cpu; Gaming series looks better aesthetically and unsure which brand i.e. Asus, Gigabyte or Msi has better reliability)
Gpu: gtx 970 or 1070 AIB (depending on brand of mobo)

Budget is ~$1800 if possible, $1900 max.

I would prefer a 1070 to 970 as a better overall single gpu option.
However, the dilemma here is that if 1070 is chosen (provided the price is same as FE), h170+6500 looks to be the next better option to fit the budget. But, if an overclockable CPU is necessary for future-proofing, z170 + 6600k makes more sense.

Fellow veterans, pls advice on the setup, thanks ;)

Why not go in between and go RX 480 instead, provided that the rumored specs are true that is :D

Problem is i am not sure if it is worth investing for OC to last me 5-6yrs, and looks like recent games not optimised for SLI/CF? :s22:

If you want to future proof, keep upgrading your parts every year.

Upgrade parts every year will burn big big hole :s13:

This is one of my option. The rumored specs quite promising but have to wait for the actual review and pricing. I'm still a green camp fan though :s13:

In order to stream + gaming at same time, is 6500 sufficient or do i have to go 6600k/6700k? Pretty much afraid to OC after reading about possible hardware components damaged but even without OC,the k-series ca still benefit from the high spd of each single core:s13:

which streaming software u gonna use? well i did tried once b4 its was quite lag, as im not sure is it my cpu or my gpu, cos when i look the chart both using 100%. (well near to that.) and it really depends on which games u are play as well.

my pc was sandy bridge with gtx 560 ti.

anyway OC can possible dmg ur cpu chips and not other hardware.

If you don't want to tax ur cpu too much, can get those pcie recorder/stream cards with their own built in controllers.

That was 5yrs ago and was it an OC chip?

OBS looks more compatible for a dual monitor setup but i am not sure if either configuration below can support it
i)h170+6500 or
ii)z170+6600k without OC

Thanks, didn't know about this option. Looks like less taxing on cpu and more on gpu :s13:
But if i am not mistaken, having a hdmi output from gpu will automatically scale down the video output to 60hz on the 144hz monitor (in dvi/dp connection)? I.e if i am using Avermedia Live Gamer HD Lite

Nah it's not a OC chips but I did try to scale down certain settings to make sure I'm lagging but that was for testing purposes (just for fun) Cos I know my system definitely not suitable for such high screen and 60 fps.

Ya I'm using OBS as well, easy to configure and all I did was on a single screen(But need keep trying to find a good settings, try to be prefect too, but it's tough.)

If you go oc with 6600k, I think better to invest in better coolers.

not really. previously i run a OC on a non k i5 6600 using the bclk overclock. got it running at 4.5ghz, it was air cooled on a hyper 212, my cpu temperature when gaming never goes above 60 degrees. hover around 50++

the money that spend on all those water cooling etc can actually funnel into a better graphics card instead?

How do you check cpu temp with non k bclk oc its disable in the hwmonitor, are you still using this oc setting currently?

At this point, i am puzzled whether to go with z170+6600k which can last me few more yrs thanks to OC feature, or h170+6500 which is $115 lesser and budget friendlier. Can any expert enlighten me? Thx :s13:
