Hi guys,

My PC has been wonky lately with random freezes, continuous restarts and much slower performance. I suspect that it may be a RAM problem but I'm looking to build a new PC since the existing one is almost 4 yrs old.

I use the PC mainly for web browsing, light gaming (ETS2, Starcraft2 ,etc) and occasional video compression.

I intend to use back my hdds and casing.I'm out the scene for quite a while and need your expert advice on the CPU, ATX motherboard, RAM adn PSU. My key requirement is that the system must be stable (and fast).

I'll get minimally a i5-6600 but have no idea on which motherboard and RAM to get. Also, do I need to get a RX480 or a GTX970? Would liquid cooling help to improve stability even if I dun overclock?

no , infact changing to those AIO liquid cooling is more unstable as you introduce 2 more potential failure mode ... hose leak or pump fail

Well I did rather u just get a new ssd and see if the issues is fixed or not. If not get a rx480 and see.

As for your issues with random freeze really depends. Might not really be ram issues. Could even be your GPU is dying.

Oh man ... My GPUs seem to die quite fast. Are there any good and stable GPUs out there?

I will say none. Cos all these are all about lucks. Anyway currently RX 480 power is unstable, but there is a fixed on next week to address the issues.

When was the last time you did a fresh Windows reinstallation?

Hmm. You got open your PC before?

Also if can, put your rig's specs here too; we can help see if you need an overhaul given that most CPUs in the last 3 to 4 years are still capable depending on your usage e.t.c.

SSD is not the filet-o-fish that cures all problems miraculously. If it's a data IO bottleneck from storage, then yes. Not instability.

Could be due to RAM or GPU (or any part in your PC). Try reseating your RAM and rely on any IGP and observe for a few days. Need systematic troubleshooting to narrow down on the problematic component.

If your system has a history of parts dying very fast, give your PSU a check. Bad PSU can prematurely wear out and kill your parts over time. Plus lead to strange instability everywhere.

A Superflower PSU will cure all the problems, according to HWC. It is that magical.

I suspect RAM contacts not clean after years of usage also; I solved such issues before by cleaning them with DeOxit (happen to have a small bottle cos me a bit of an audiophile lah :o:s13:).

Thank you for all your advice! I'm currently using a i5-3470, 8GB ram, Gigabyte H77-D3H-MVP, Radeon HD 7700, Corsair HX520W.

I've cleaned and reseated the rams and will monitor the system.

Thanks again!:D
