Hi to all the pros here,

I want to build a PC/Server it would be on 24/7.
Mainly to use it to store my Data/Accounts, so i can access/edit it from other location.
I might use it to host my own website also.
Mostly properly would be using Windows Remote Server to access.
Budget around $400, excluding the Windows 7 Pro for the PC enough?
Any bros has lobang for Windows 7 Pro?

CPU + Mobo: G3258 + AsRock H81M ($171)
Ram: G.skill 4gb ($50)
HDD: TOSHIBA 500gb 7200RPM ($56)
DVD: LG DVD Rom ($25)
PSU + Case: CM Micro Casing + CM 400W ($89)

Please advise on the following build, anything worth upgrading/downgrading.

Any particular reasons for hosting your own server? If not, would recommend you to go for a VPS instead. Much more hassle free(and cheaper) in the long run.

Or do you want to convert your old rig to become a 24/7 server?

no particular reason, just feel that it is easier, no need to subscribe to anything.
Parts i can always change myself, so more in control, if the server no more use, still can use as a normal PC.
Sadly i does not have any old rig available, thus the reason of getting a cheap rig for server.

Your server is for you to remote in just to grab files/data? If so, I believe a cheap NAS to serve as your FTP server would be a better choice.

Hosting a server nowadays has too many cons like backups, redundancy checks, management/cleanup, knowledge on setting up DNS, having your own static IP etc. Really too much of a hassle.

If you want a feeling similar to building a rig, you can consider AWS: http://aws.amazon.com/

It's basically a server but hosted on cloud. You can have control over the "parts" for upgrading/downgrading etc

I will properly install a SQL server there also and running my own jBoss/Weblogic, NAS overall also more exp?
Setting up DNS not much of an issue for me, will also just use a external HDD as backup.

Overall still prefer something i can physically touch to update/play around.

My DIY NAS/Server has similar specs, just get a better PSU IMO.

Running Ubuntu. You can try that out too.
