Help needed with troubleshooting

There is a weird problem with my HTPC.

Sometimes it works fine.

But sometimes, after awhile, the screen turns black and I am unable to ping to this HTPC nor gain remote access to the PC. Opening the casing seems to indicate that the fans are still working.

I am wondering what components are spoiled so that I can make the necessary decisions to scrap the PC (it is a Sandy Bridge liao ) or to just procure a replacement for it to keep going.

check event logs and reliability monitor.

So far the pc remained on and working properly. I seem to trace down the problem to the pc hanging when doing a system partition backup (I use Ease Todo Backup Free). Maybe it hang because it couldn't find the partition. I edited the backup plan to point to the right partition. Will need to monitor for a few more days.
