Hi, guys i just recently build my 1st computer and have a few issues that i have trouble with.

1st: Internet connection, i have installed drivers from the mobo cd including the lan drive so it should be working fine but when i plugged the ethernet cable into the desktop.

it says internet connection connected but i cant seem to browse the web.

i tried trouble shooting it, clearing my dns, etc. but to no avail.

Is there anyone who encountered this before & what are the steps to solve it?

FYI: My fibre optic is connected to a Dlink wireless router & my computer is located in my room therefore the wire cant stretch but i have a d link wireless adapter( i think, it looks like a small palm sized box that plugs into the socket of the wall with a ethernet port at the side of it) in my room and i plugged in the cable from that adapter to my comp.

theres a short beep at start up, so i assume everything is working fine.

2nd: My UEFI read that i have 3 SATA connection, 1 ssd , 1 cd drive & a hdd drive.

when i click my computer, only the ssd & cd drive is there but theres no hdd. how do i make the hdd readable in the my computer?

Below are the specs:

Asus B85 PRO GAMER
Intel i5 4460
Crucial 1600mhz 4gb Ram x2
crucial mx100 256gb ssd
1tb toshiba hdd
samsung dvd/cd drive
Super flower 600m
Windows 8.1 oem

its my first time building so im not really sure on troubleshooting the above, any help/guide is much appreciated!

Many thankd!

Hdd you must head to start>type disk management > click on disk management and partition > hdd is inside right click and create hdd new volume and format it.

The small thing that is connected to the socket is a homeplug. Im suspecting it may go faulty.

Remove the homeplug and go for a direct connection to your router.

Use or buy a longer lan cable to directly connect from your router to desktop.

If still cannot, try directly connecting straight from modem.

What is the local IP when you check the IPV4 properties?

If you got 169.254.xxx.xxx, you are not getting an IP from the router (DHCP), when no IP assign by DHCP, Windows will give you an APIPA (automatic private IP) which will not conflict with any of the existing (if any) computer connected to the local network for troubleshooting purposes.

Quick update:

formatted hdd, thanks for the steps!

Regarding the internet connection, im using a Dlink powerlink ( the one that help spread the wifi coverage) theres some issue with connecting the cable from the power link to my pc.

Apparently it got to be plugged into a power socket directly but due to power socket limitation at my router, i had to plug it via extension cord so that crap doesnt work like its supposed to.

therefore im considering buying a usb wireless drive or pci wireless adapter. Which is the better choice?

FYI: My internet router and my Pc is 1 level apart. but that shouldnt be an issue cause i have a working HP desktop which uses wlan and the speed for it is quite decent.

Thanks!

Get a PCI-E wireless adapter instead of a USB wireless dongle. The superior bandwidth of the PCI-E slot over the USB port may help to reduce latency and provide you with a better internet experience.
