Nowadays mirrorless is catching, try get a 2nd fuji XE1 with a kit lens will get you there, around 1000, slightly more than that maybe.

Agreed with KitKatKitKat, investing in dslr can be big hole. Some outgrow the entry level models very fast if really into photography. If didn't plan or purchase wisely, subsequent upgrade or switching costs increases. Alternatively, can consider renting the different dslrs + lens and shoot with them for a day or two to really get a feel of the different models before committing to purchase. Just Google for some local rental shops around. Short rentals are not that ex.

Actually, everything can be a big hole. Audio, Cars, Pojectors (4K TV, HD, Blu-Ray... etc) and more.

Actually mirrorless also is catching up as a big hole. Just had friends spending $4K on mirrorless lenses. Fujinon 56 f/1.2, $1299. 60 f/2.8 etc.

It's a misconception that mirrorless is cheap or not so 'atas'.

A hobby's definitely a big hole. Which hobby isn't? Getting turned off because of a 'big hole' doesn't make it a hobby anymore.

U pay about the same price for mirror less as u would for DSLR. Difference is u pay for small size and light weight vs losing out the depth of field of DSLR if u cannot afford expensive f1.8 and bigger aperture lenses.

You are also missing out on speed, light, aperture, focal lengths accessories that are available for DSLR and not mirrorless.

That said mirrorless have been coming up hot and rising in costs, it's not really that much savings anymore.
