We recently did NIPT and it was about $1400.

Doctor allowed us to choose between Oscar and nipt but he did warn us about the high error rate with Oscar due to older technology.

We took up NIPT because we don't want to go through Oscar and then go through NIPT again if the oscar results is not accurate.

If you can afford it, go for nipt and save your wife from risk having to draw blood again for another test.

I think it's better to do the test although we didn't for our first born as the first gynaecologist did not push for it.

Now we are doing it because it's required for older mothers.

Depends, ask your heart if got problem dare to kill the baby or not. Ask your wife too. No point to sugar coat, termination or abortion is basically killing the baby.

If yes, can - then take the most expensive test.

If don't have the heart to kill, then no need to test.

TS can seek advice what is the accuracy % of each test. As shared above NIPT has higher accuracy than Oscar, but IIRC Oscar accuracy is 90%+ which is still respectable.

Personal take is, if wife does not belong to high risk group (hereditary issues, older age) and more cincai can save $1000 by doing Oscar.

we wanted the baby no matter the condition.
so we opted for low cost OSCAR in NUH.
On the scan day, the baby was not rotating..so they could not scan properly.
we did not go for blood scan( which is part of oscar) as the OSCAR scan was not clear as baby didnt cooperate.
Paid 250$ for scan and 130$ for private consultation.

They wanted me to reschedule for oscar again to get clear picture.
Again to spend 380$? , so i paid 1100$ finally and did the Igene NIPT itself.
Penny wise , pound foolish.

We never did any of the tests for any of our kids. Abortion is a big no no in our religion. So if there is no chance we would terminate the pregnancy then why bother testing?
