Will colour-blindness affect CBC's acceptance?

I got colour-blindness and didn't declare it in my uni application form (iirc). However, CBC (not my top choice) accepted me.

Any seniors here have CBC's friends who are colour-blind? Or they will cancel your acceptance approval once they know u're colour-blind? Damn worrying now :(

Oh... I read it from the ntu web that partial colour blindness will only affect the approval of courses like engineering & biological science..

What's the chance of NTU revoking my acceptance of their course huh? I've called them and they say that they will review it..:(

It will put me at ease if any CBC's seniors here can enlighten me on this vexing issue.:(

From my experience in CBC,I don't think it will play a major factor in your studies. It is just that it might affect the type of job after graduation.

Hi, alright.. That makes me feel a lil less worrying now.. coz they say they might need to review my acceptance (I've accepted the course prior to me ringing them up to inform them that I have not state partial colour blind in my app form)

Thanks:s12:

Usually for higher level chem courses color blindness should not be an issue. Unlike in sec or jc, colour doesn't really play much of an importance cos most of the instruments we use are quantitative. Cos your lab reports would be mostly data based and not qualitative (as in observation of colour). Even if there is, you wouldn't lose much marks. As long as you can read numbers and chromatograms, it should be fine. The only career that may not work for you would be teaching, because sec and jc syllabus need to report colour observations.

That being said, I'm not sure if you only have trouble seeing green and red? Other colors appear normal?

I can see red and green lol, honestly I don't know which colour I'm not able to differentiate coz I'm like able to see every colours. Maybe super light green and yellow I will have abit of difficulties.. Damn that doctor who anyhow perform the test and didn't told me which colours I'm able to see. :(

Thanks for your input. Appreciate much :D

Not to scare you. But should be no problem if the PDF says it only affects biomed and engineering students. But you shld have declared it because the medical exam will check one more time and since you declare "no" , you are liable for the wrong info that you have provided. You better pray that they will overlook this. Otherwise , should be ok. All the best and welcome to NTU!

hi can i ask you some questions regarding ntu cbc? i'm a prospective student trying to decided btween nus faculty of science (chem) and ntu cbc. i'd just mainly like to ask
1. is the syllabus in nus and ntu about the same or very different?
2. is it true that it's easier to obtain better grades in ntu?
3. your overall experience in cbc

To be honest. NUS is harder. Ntu quite ok , exams definitely easier. I have friends in NUS chemistry , heard they are dying over there?. If you nt that kind very smart one , better choose NTU. Direct honors and you can study at a comfortable pace. Sorry I'm from SBS but i think CBC is good. Chemist are well sought , better prospect than biology students. Just choose NTU , you will realize the ugly truth. You just need that degree , as long u are in local UNI , you are already not bad. Where you are from (matters only to a certain extent). But most importantly , is your attitude and talent. Whether you are an asset to the company depends on you . The cert is just a formality.

thanks!!! :') sigh yeah you're right afterall there're many more foreigners in nus and they're really smart...

1. but then again i've another qns, i heard that ntu is more focused on hand-ons materials, will it be disadvantaging those who are not really hands-on kind but more of the theory kind?

2. i saw on aanother forum saying that employers also know that the standard is lower... so do you think/ have you heard of them hiring nus chemist with just a degree rather than ntu honours student?

1) I beg to differ.Theory for chemistry should be the same for both schools.I feel there is no difference.

2) I feel that once you have graduated from NUS or NTU,there is not much difference. The difference is whether you have good soft skills to get the job....Things to consider is the 3yrs at NUS vs 4 years at NTU and the travelling distance

I have 1 more year left to the end of my CBC education...
Woohoo!!!!Enjoy your chemistry education..

He's right! Dun worry haha. Cos you have TAs (Teaching Assistants) to help you during practicals. Take this time to learn more and you will improve your hands on skills !!

I don't think you need to bring laptop to school. There are sufficient computers.

You will have lab sessions for 3 years and you might need a laptop to type out for your report.

Hope this clear your question.
Btw,are you entering this year?

Hi I'm in a dilemma on whether to choose cbc or nus science! I would appreciate it if current cbc students can answer some of my questions! Firstly, how are the profs like? Are there alot of foreigners in the course? Also, how are the school hours like? thanks in advance:)

Hi there.I will list down some factors to consider

1) Distance
2) NUS 3 years vs NTU 4 years
NTU has internship or final year project in year 4 but you gotta stay through 4 years...
You can opt of from NUS after 3 years
3) Foreigners
-I am glad to say that NTU Cbc is about 70% singaporeans
4) Profs
-I feel that they are approachable though I rarely visit them

Personally,I have enjoyed my NTU experience with good frens..
Its how you make it memorable...
