Help on building diy gaming rig

I'm planning on building a gaming rig myself, this is the first time im doing it so I was wondering if any of your could help me with some suggestion on what parts to get and what to look out for. I have a budget Of 1k and will be playing games like gta and Dota 2 and TOS. I have a hdd, dvd writer and windows os so I need the rest of the parts. Really Appreciate some help!

HDD and ODD using SATA or IDE interface?

Just to let you know if you want to reuse an existing Windows from your current PC on this new PC, you have to 'convince' Microsoft CSO to activate for you...
