Help on getting a gaming rig?

I am still figuring whether I should get a gaming notebook or a notebook + desktop combo.
I don't mind having to assemble my PC myself or going to individual companies for warranties, etc.
I want to game on 1080p, high to ultra on games like BF4 and the likes.
I don't have any preference for brands, but I heard great things about integrated graphics in AMD systems? Of course if an Intel is better in my case, I wouldn't say no either.

I would also need a monitor, any ideas where I should get one? At least 20".

Get a good desktop, and a cheap laptop and swap out the HDD for SSD.

Not more than 2k... but every dollar saved on the desktop goes into a lighter/longer lasting laptop! Oh I also have an external DAC so I don't mind crappy onboard audio.

That is hard.... cheap laptops with basic functions alrdy 800-1k.. You are left with 1k for desktop. And for it to play bf4 at ultra is hard. Summore you want a monitor.
