Help on Long running problem.

my computer is currently I think about 2+ years old. Specs are as stated at the side.

The problem started about a Dec 2012. I left the PC on to download some files while i went away for about 10 days. The PC was scheduled to shut down in 4 days but by the time i came back it was stuck in a error screen.

Since then the cpu temps were 15deg higher than normal. But all was fine.

6 months ago the system would start to crash once in awhile. It would definitely crash in games. I applied new therm paste and the temps went back down and things improved a little. But now it'll crash on simple things like word work or video let alone editing or games.

I reformatted a few times but no change now.
The system runs at acceptable temperature when running in safe mode.

So what i need help with is:
1) Any way to test which components giving prob
2) What's your take on what's wrong.

I think might be the gfx card but i dun get why cpu temps will be affected though

I'd love to sell off the whole thing but I dare not sell things that im not sure if its working or not. So i think i'll just replace whatever is faulty.

try using inboard graphics got crash?
psu problem may also cause crash or motherboard. if still in wrty can ask distributor to check

Start downloaing memtest and run it. See whether is your ram fully functional. If there's error go ahead and RMA it.

looks like your memory could be causing the error, try letting it run overnight via
memtest as royfrosty recommend.

Use the bootable one(instead of the windows version).


means use a USBdrive(empty) and install the memtest bootable on it.

then boot via bios then you can run the memory test.

thanks for the input guys. i'll get to it when im home on the weekend.

one question, i dont think my mobo has onboard gfx. the only other way to test is to get a separate cheap gfx card isst?

regarding this:

if your graphic card is running hot example 85 degrees. the heatsink fan will blow out the hot air into your case and some of it will pass through your cpu fan thus you can say that the cooler your graphic card runs, the cooler your cpu temps will be.

I re-read your problems; these are the possible ones in order from my opinion(I could be wrong of course):

1) RAM (as others said, you need to test to make sure)
2) Hard disk (maybe too old with bad sectors)

make sure you download the proper drivers and install windows properly(w/ updates)

Hey guys,,
so far i've run memtest a few times with all three slots of ram plugged in.

I'd say out of 10 times 7 times it crashed before completing a pass. 2 times it went 3 passes then crashed. ONCE it ran 7 passes and kept going but i stopped it.

So im not so sure why it's so irregular. will running memtest with one stick at a time be better?

Also when it crashes the GFX card fan speeds up to max.

fleas bro, the solution if its the hard drives is to update the drivers? or replace it if there are bad sectors

if u are certain its harddisk failing, the get a new one. u can try to clone but I suggest a full clean new install because ur old harddisk will fail before completing the cloning.

I think u can rma sine WD black has 5 years warranty. just make sure its the harddisk causing the problem.
