Seeking advice on which setup would offer better all round value for its pricing

- cost
- reliability and ease of troubleshooting
- performance

Both also okay.

Depend you are intel or amd supporter.

Also amd support new CPU till year 2020.

Meaning you can change a newer amd CPU without changing a new motherboard.

While Intel, every gen they stick to one board.

Would recommend atleast 16gb ram. 8Gb is too little. Chrome alone gobbles it up.

He can choose what apps he runs or how many sites he keeps open in Chrome to work comfortably with 8GB. Esp when playing games, can close browser. I don't think I ever hit 8GB just browsing.

Plus, it's easier to buy another 8GB to drop in later. Better to save on the 8GB RAM and put it towards a 6GB gfx card since he can't save up to add 3GB to it later

There isn't really such a thing as future proof in IT. An example would be, 3 years down the road, you probably would need to upgrade your graphics card to keep up with the new games. Just keep upgrading as and when is needed.

Do not purchase the AMD option as the new gen is coming out in 2-3 weeks time. Wait for the new chip before making any decisions. Also, try and get 3000mhz rams instead of 2400mhz. Ram speed actually matters for AMD Ryzen. Since you could overclock ryzen to get better performance, would recommend a better power supply. Maybe consider the EVGA g3 gold 550 since it's at 110 for 7 yrs warranty

Intel on the other hand seems pretty good. Go for it if your PC is mainly for games. If you will be doing a mixture of productivity and games, would recommend the AMD instead.

Either would be a solid choice but it boils down to can you wait? If you can't, get the Intel. If you can, wait for the new AMD chip before committing.
