[Help] PC cannot boot up, press power button no response.

Motherboard lights are on but when I press power button, all the fans dont start spinning, pc cannot boot up. No error beep sounds. Just no response.

I tried using screw driver to jump start the motherboard power pins, doesnt work so shldnt be a fault power bttn. MB and USB lights still on so shldnt be PSU faulty

What can the issue be?

PSU faulty also can have same symptoms, lights turn on but cannot boot

can try doing paperclip test on your PSU to see if PSU boots after shorting it

most likely mobo kaput as all the fans power are feed via the motherboard. Assuming they were working previously and you did not make any hardware or software changes before the issue appeared.

My old pc same issue when cold boot, bios boot up few hours after pressed casing power button. Initially thought motherboard coin battery low power, but still occasionally same issue after replaced coin battery.

Maybe 7 years old motherboard or 9 years old sata ssd problem. But high chance is the ssd as many times when the issue occurred, pc booted into bios screen with ssd missing. Must let pc stay in the bios sceen for half to 1 hour then ssd will reappear after reboot.

Now not more issue when do not switch off psu after shut down pc.

Strangely it has powered itself back on a few hrs later....

Faulty PSU can still powered on after it is left turn off.
Replace the PSU first, if you have no confidence than bring to a shop at SLS
let them check.

Weirdly, I also faced this exact issue with my PC today after running fine for about 4 years, current PSU is the EVGA G+ 650W. The thing just turned off randomly without warning and can't boot back up again.

Probably need to RMA the PSU, damn annoying...

Today I just found a clue, the windows clock was delayed by 1+hrs when I booted it up. Suspect is the CMOS battery going flat.

Exact same symptoms as my pc. old vbat was 3.024v in hwinfo. Changed new coin battery then found the vbat value dropping by tiny amount when pc took very long to post the vbat value dropped tiny amount. Initially after change battery 3.192v then after few weeks became 3.144v.

After do not switch off psu after shut down os, the vbat value has been same for months already.

My psu cooler master v650gold is about 2 years old when this issue first occurred, now 3 years old.

Coincidentally my friend's PC has this issue as well. 2nd hand PC that's around 3 years old. It was working 2 days ago, could game without issues for hours. Then the PC wasn't turned on for a full day (Monday) and when she tried to turn it on again on Tuesday night, nothing happened after pressing the on switch. When she flips on the PSU switch, the LED of the USB hub plugged in lighted up but the pc doesn't turn on no matter how many times she presses the power button on the PC case.

Came over to diagnose her PC. Unplugged all the cables etc and left it to sit for while.

Then I unplugged the pins on the mobo at the bottom right for power and the PC could boot up using the screwdriver method. Plugged back the pins on the mobo and the power switch on the case is working again.

So what's wrong with the PC? CMOS battery dying? Previous owner claims that this never happened to him before.
