Hi any expert care to advise.

Brought a new WD caviar black 1TB.
Installed then running full format before using, system hangs during the format (73%)
After restarting, the HDD is detected in disk management, but cannot reformat and cannot assign drive name to it.

Ran diagnostic tool to write zero, test failed

Using win 7.

Any expert know how to reformat the disk?

Not an expert but here's what i would do

Download Gparted from the net ,,,its free. Its an ISO file so youll need to burn it to a DVD disk.
Then insert it in your DVD drive and boot from it. ( might need to change your bios settings to boot from DVD)
To be safe disconnect your existing hard drive and just have the new hard drive and the DVD drive connected.
(Gparted is linux based and wont care what hardware you have)
Then completely erase your drive and reformat to what you want

Good luck

just run diskpart from start button or cmd.

type in "select disk ?" (? being the drive that you see in disk management)
type in "clean" and confirm, it will delete everything about the drive and then allow you to re-initialise it in the disk management.
