I have a mITX HTPC which starts to have bootup issue. When I try to boot up my machine right after it had shutdown completely, it is unable to start up. It may take around a min or 2 before I can boot it up again. This is despite I had ensure that all the sockets are connected properly. This occurs quite often, but not everytime. Sometimes, I might still be able to boot it up on first press.

I suspect it to be the internal PSU that is giving the problem, I am unable to bootup using WOL. Am I right to say that WOL works only when the power source is connected to the machine, right? When the power source is disconnected and reconnected again, WOL will not work, right?

Specs:
Mobo+CPU: Asrock H81M-ITX + i3-4150
RAM: Crucial Value RAM
SSD: Crucial M4 128GB
Casing: In-Win BQ600 series with built-in 120W PSU

Please advise, thanks!

for mitx i will check the bios temp first w/o load
my WOL works fine with gigabyte ga-ep45ud3 motherboard even with the power turn on and off but not for another ASUS pc both are set to WOL magic packets in future i will give ASUS pc a miss

guys, thanks for looking into my problem.

may i know what is without load? do i just boot into the UEFI to take a look at the temp first? I'll update tml morning.

i have a desktop using the same Gigabyte mobo, the WOL is really easy to work with.

btw, when the machine is on, I can watch my HD movies using XBMC without any interruption. It's the shutting down and booting up that is giving me the problem.

Anyway, I'd added my specs.

I'd just check my CPU and MB temp from the UEFI.

CPU Temp: 59 ํC
MB Temp: 40 ํC

Any anomaly??

  • enable gigabyte PME EVENT WAKE UP option
  • enable ethernet card WOL magic packets
  • shut down your PC.
  • Allow Remote Access in your router.
  • use android WOL apps

Did a brief prime95 test on the machine, temperature wemt up to 91ํC and I abort the test. Is it running at too high a temp?

i'll take a look at it and report later. btw, what kind of temp should I be looking at for a i3-4150 in a mesh panel mITX casing with no casing's fan. The built-in PSU has a small fan though.

meanwhile, the PC is using stock HSF and thermal paste. when i first fixed up the PC, i did took out the HSF again to reroute the cables, though all done on the first day. does it affect the effectiveness of the thermal paste?

bro, actually the WOL for my mITX works. just that somehow, there's a power cutoff or disconnection after shutdown, that doesn't allow me to bootup my system. I deduced this from the system being unable to bootup from WOL. And this problem occurs often, but not everytime. I'd tried WOL my system immediately after shutdown, sometimes it does wakes up.

I'm sure I don't have go to extreme measure by delidding my CPU ba.

BTW, I'd remounted my HSF, the CPU and MB temp hovers at 60 and 43 respectively. Seems to rise steadily. hmm

No wonder you are experiencing high idle and load temperature. Minimum you need an exhaust fan to push out the hot air generated by CPU/GPU.
