Hi, a friend recently asked me to help plan out a rig with him and while thats all fine and dandy I seem to have hit a snag.

Normally I would have gone with a closed loop cooler, but for this current build I'm currently dabbling with aircoolers, something I have not done (lucky me to be born in the generation of affordable liquid loop cooling) I currently have no clue as to whether the current configuration would allow for non low profile ram modules.Current chosen Motherboard is the Asus H97 Gaming Pro paired with a 212X cooler.

Is there any website or something where i can check for stuff like these? (For future reference:p)

P.s. gonna leave the current rough plan here for any more comments/suggestions.

Use Kingston valueram no problem.

Dun need x850w psu... G650 will do. Or superflower hx600w...

I understand that some of these are overkill, but he has a relatively large budget, so might as well get quality components that can last long and can be used for future builds/upgrades, it's not my rig after all and I don't want to deal with any "support" issues with regards to things dying not performing up to snuff.

Still no word on how to check ram+Cooler+ mobo compatibility tho /sigh

isn't the intel stock cooler more than enough for your cpu, as you're not overclocking it?

it should, but as i mentioned the budget for this is rather large, as such having a cooler CPU is always better. In the end, this is just a plan for my friend with decision s going to be up to him. the main goal is actually for me to see if theres any way to check cooler/ram/mobo compatibility.

no experience with 212x but have a feeling that it will touch your heatspreader... maybe about approx 0.1-0.5cm gap??? try googling for pics...

edit: also depend on how you install it...

I could install the fan on the other side, just worried it will draw in my dust from the back. :/ but oh well. maybe I can try mounting it horizontally..

You can check ram compatibility at Asus web site based on the motherboard used. As for cooler, check height clearance per casing used.

I was actually refering to ram height clearance issue froim the air cooler. hbeard that the distance diffres from mobo to mobo (Cooler to ram) so was wondering is there any place to check it.

Then look for low height ram or those with heat spreader no higher than ram PCB.

Saw one thread that mentioned 1.8inches clearance with a different mobo, but should give you a rough idea:

CM Hyper 212x with Corsair Vengeance RAM [Solved] - Corsair - Components

If the vengeance is low-profile u r good to go. Otherwise it might create problem. the 212x fits with a bit of play. the clearance is almost 1.8 inches where the vengeance heat spreaders can reach over 2 inches.

If you use the two blue RAM slots you should be fine. If the 212X works similar to a 212 EVO, you should be able to just move the fan to the other side of the heatsink if you ever need to fill all the slots.

Also read a number of posts that say that the fan can be moved up slightly to give more clearance. Maybe you can check videos or the manual to confirm this.
