Help: Accidentally quick format ssd drive (think NTFS to exfat). Is there anyway the files can be restored? Any shop provide the recovery service at affordable rate? Personal files accidentally quick formatted, because i mistook ssd drive for thumb drive, and wanted to convert the thumb drive to exfat. Thanks for advice.

not sure how much you would considered affortable rate?

if you have sensitive files like personal data and finance data I would suggest DIY with the following software: 1st option bundles lifetime upgrade U$127.37 which you can use multiple time in case things happen again in future.

you can try the free version for 2GB recovery to see if it help.

I'm looking at the software as an option, but not sure if it still works if the file system has changed. Thanks for sharing, trying to explore options. Yes, personal files.

I use RECUVA free software to recover files from my corrupted Thumbdrives many times... it's mostly 75% to 85% success.
Recovered files transfer out to a folder, then SCAN again see if there are MORE files that can be recovered.
Keep scanning until recovered more or less the same files, then stop.

thanks bro. I'm trying RECUVA also, but nothing relevant detected after several attempts. Tried using test disk, easeus and disk drill, but also nothing relevant detected after scanning. That's why wondering if it's because I need another software after changing the file system from ntfs to exfat during the quick format.

Have you enabled deep scan on recuva? I find thats the only way to get most files back.

Can try this r-studio. It cost $50 to $80 usd depending on the filesystem. However it has demo mode with file size limitation.

R-STUDIO run in the demo mode allows you to evaluate how the utility recovers lost files. The only limitation is you can not recover files larger than 256KB in the demo mode.

https://www.r-studio.com/Data_Recovery_Download.shtml

Can also try this freeware since you had format the ssd to exFAT.

Free R-UNDELETE version for Home Users recovers files from external USB disks, digital photo and video camera memory cards and other storage devices with the FAT (FAT12, FAT16, FAT32, and exFAT) file system.

R-Undelete Home is ideal freeware for recovery lost digital photos, movies, and music files that are usually stored on devices with the FAT file system (read the article Photo Recovery for more details). Lost files search on the NTFS and ReFS file systems is fully functional for files under 256KB in size.

Yes enabled deep scan
Do you still connect it directly to Mobo?

For an quick format normally should be able to recover files without issue.

My next suggestion is the easeUS partition master pro free trial to revert the drive to ntfs then try recover again with all the utilities recommend by other members.

Found a shop that said it has more specialised recovery software, fingers crossed. So far i've tried using Recuva, easeUS, test disk, easeus and disk drill. Somehow cannot detect the ntfs files. At best was test disk, which detected the ntfs partition, but not the files inside. Tough luck.
Thanks all bros, for all the advice and help, deeply appreciated.

Quite surprised Testdisk did not work for you. Another one to try is PhotoRec. It should come bundled with Testdisk if you download it straight from the developer.

Linux generally has better data recovery software/utilities as compared to Windows. So I will normally do it on a Linux machine (Ubuntu/Debian). Just that most of them are not so "user-friendly" with a GUI, mainly over the terminal. I have restored accidentally deleted/formatted data from my clients' servers many times. And I use Linux every single time.

If you are keen, you can go down the Linux rabbit hole and give it a try. Chances are even the professionals that are offering you the data recovery services are also running some form of Linux data restoration software/utilities.

hi bros, after a long time, the shop came back and said cannot recover anything at all. The shop apparently tried hardware recovery at the chip level, to no avail.

Wanted to check if there is any reputable shop that you can recommend for me to try again. Thanks.

Most ssd should have trim function enable by default. SSD trim function will destroy all deleted/formatted data when powered?

I'm now in the same predicament. I have multiple drives and reformatted the wrong drive where all my backup data is stored. Call a data recovery store and he said that the chances of me getting my data back is very slim. I need help.
