Hi guys,

Recently i've just assembled my rig which is less than 1 month old and i'm wondering whether i should sell off my msi gtx760 and get the amd r9 280x. I'm intending to play battlefield 4 on 1920 x 1080 ultra settings and want to know if its worthwhile to change the GPU to experience better performance and higher fps. I dont overclock though.

Specs of my rig as follows:
Asrock b75m dgs + i5-3470
Kingston value ram 8gb
WD blue 1 tb
Plextor m5p 128gb
MSI gtx760 twin frozr 2gb + seasonic m12ii 620w
Sharkoon t28
Samsung odd

Would love to hear the opinion of the experts here. Appreciate ur kind advice. Thanks!

AMD is currently set to dominate the graphics card market in terms of bang for buck. If you're really keen on having software such as mantle which would be super useful in future, then go for the R9 280x.

You too much money to waste?

Nope just that i played BF4 beta with gtx 760 and gameplay wasn't so smooth as i expect. There was occasional lag spikes and in some areas the fps drop to quite low.

Heard that the r9 280x performance as good as gtx770 and priced lower so dont know if its worthwhile for me to get it.

You are not going to get a stellar performance upgrade from 760 to 280x... If you going to spend that much, might as well get a SLI z87 board and another 760. Guaranteed to set ultra at 4xAA

Beta was unoptimized really bad and its a hit or miss thing. People with 780 SLI also report dips in framerates but my 760 SLI get 60 lowest. Why not just wait 2 weeks first before release and decide again. Who knows at launch can set maxed.

BF4 not optimised fully yet for nvidia... Wait for game to officially release, and test again and maybe wait for nvidia drivers. It could change things or at least stabilise fps...

Greatest flaw with AMD is their support for older drivers is pretty weak.

They recently stopped Vista driver update so you no longer get any benefit with installing drivers beyond 13.4 or beta. This is kinda nonsensical since Vista still work and support DX11 and .Net 4.5 and MS extended its support.

XP support was also stopped a few months before Vista but it's understandable.

Those on Win 7 probably have another 4 to 5 years of driver updates if that's AMD driver support trend. Especially with MS aggressively rolling out biennial release of Windows. E.g 9, 10, etc

Since you are waiting.... Keep a watch out for price drops and weigh the pros and cons.

Edit: Take note you can "install" the latest beta for Vista but the drivers won't be updated, even if it shows a "successful completed install" AND it will mess up your catalyst control center. E.g you will still be at driver 13.4 but CC won't start or spout error messages.

It is not optimized for almost all kinds of graphics you used in beta games.

But the last update for beta my GTX760 handles it well. In fact better than the rest of the updates. And im also using beta drivers for Nvidia which is meant for beta BF4.

Im getting 50++ fps at min and 70++ fps for Ultra without AA. And with 2xMSAA im getting 45fps to 61fps. 4xMSAA gives me 38fps to 55fps.

And even if you upgrade to either a GTX770 or a 280x. You pretty much gonna waste your money.

Rather you get an SLI mobo and SLI with another gtx760 and that will surpass a gtx780 easily.

If you intend to multiplayer at those settings, research if your internet can support 64vs64 type of matches. Can always stick to classic 16vs16 though.

Huh? What has internet got to do with video settings? If you have a bad connection, playing at ultra or low will give you the same latency. Internet usage for gaming is actually really low.

There is no 128 player games in bf4 officially, unless if the server decide to install a mod of some sort. Maxed 32 vs 32

Not really. If bad connection, lowering the settings does help in-game fps. At least, that's my experience when playing such games.

The rendering of video settings graphics are being handled by your graphic card. There is no link to bad connection affecting video performance. Latency lag does not equate to fps lag. If you needed to lower the settings to get better fps, then it means your computer cannot run the game at your desired setting, nothing to do with your bad connection.

if you want to know what is bad connection. wait till you come over to my place I show you what is bad connection with my 1mbps direct lan from starhub set up box instead of using the direct modem.

When there is a slow or bad connection it has nothing to do with fps. Any game that you play with internet connectivity will make you a "ninja" in the game. You will stutter like nobody business. And that is not caused by your GPU. is by the connectivity issues.
