[Help] TV, HDD, Thumbdrive, VideoFormats

Recently I bought a Samsung Smart TV 65".
When I plug my External HDD to the TV through usb port, it can read but unable to play it smoothly. Freezing and lagging for both video and audio.
My other friend told me that External HDD cannot play some videos smoothly, recommended me to buy a new thumbdrive that is more than 100gb so that when I plug the thumbdrive into my TV, it will be able to play it smoothly. Is she correct?

if u got smaller usb thumdrive now, split the movie file into a smaller size tat can fit, then test the tv playback
if same problem then is wat FatalityV mention

Those low end players might not be able to cope

yes, most likely it is the HEVC encoding of the video.

Files encoded by HEVC ( aka H.265 ) require more processing power compared to H.264 files. You might have better luck with H265 files at lower bit-rates. H264 videos will definitely play without issues.

You also have to take note which audio format your TV support. AC3 might not be supported e.g.

HEVC at such high bitrate and 4K resolution require a more powerful device than your TV inbuilt decoder, like a HTPC or powerful new android playback box. No thumbdrive will help...

Of course, you can transcode it or reencode it to a lower bitrate and lower resolution video file.
