The issue maybe due to resolution/fresh rate your old monitor unable to support. Boot to safe mode and set display as follow:
1. Refresh rate to 60Hz
2. Resolution to whatever your old monitor can support

save setting and reboot into normal mode.

Thanks jtj for the reply anyway, I tink I found the cause of the problem... I connect my monitor to the vga port on the motherboard -.- my gpu motherboard below do not have vga port.. guess I have to get a vga to dvi adaptor for the time being and upgrade my monitor asap. Just to confirm with u guys again if the gpu is connected, plugging the monitor via the motherboard port would render it unable to detect signal right?

If a discrete GPU is installed, video signal will be output from the discrete GPU.
