[help] WD Drive not mounting

My WD Drive doesn't seems to be appearing on my finder after unlocking but it's showning up on my disk unity. Anyone know the solution?

Same happened to me last week but manage to access it after restart many times.

Mine is My Book. Been happening for months. Damn fed up.

Look like your is a blue drive. Happened on my two WD green drives. First time (1st WD) no experience so all DATA gone but second time (2nd WD drive) I'm immediately get a new Seagate drive to backup it all.


Can try to contact local WD RMA to help you recover data (fee is expensive) and next time get a new drive to backup sooner.

not sure if he's referring to the same drives you were referring to. i think he's referring to WD My book which is an external storage?

On the working mac, can you use disk utility to run some diagnostics like repair disk and disk permission?

To isolate the OS or OS X Yosemite as you claimed, please boot the affected mac in OS X recovery and see if the volumes are mounted on there. if not, you might have a hardware issue instead.

After all if it's really the OS causing the problem, you can perform an erase and install to fix the issue.

I would also recommend using a different USB port and disconnect other peripherals if any while connected to power source.

Disk utility not able to repair. Will try the recovery later.

You formatted as FAT, exFAT or HFS+ ?

I noticed exFAT formatted drives easily gets corrupted

This happened to me too but mine's a WD Passport.

Try this:

Repair Disk and Repair Disk Permissions then Mount

If unrepairable,

Try using DiskWarrior to recreate a possible damaged directory or to recover all your data and reformat the affected disk.

This is assuming that the drive itself has no mechanical failures like bad sectors etc.
