hi all

been on mr 1gbps since april, averaging between 500-800mbps
then recently had to extend my lan cable from the ont to ac68u, 15ft cat6e (supposedly) bought from sls. was very good for a while, sometimes can hit consistent 800-900mbps, then recently it went to ****, the download and upload keep capping at 100mbps, it is trying very hard to go above 100 but it simply cannot. tried rebooting router couple of times and it fixed it, but now it does not work at all, any advice on why it is capped? i do not have QOS on

hmmm.....check your NIC settings, are they auto negotiating? Or maybe manual to 1Gbps to try out.

If its flat out at 100mbps, it suggest that this newly bought cable might be lousy in quality or might have been damaged. Try use back the original purple cable provided by MR and see if it restores your connection. Reboot ONT only if you cannot surf after changing the cable.

No, it is router faulty for sure. Just bring the router to the service centre from Mon - Friday to do the one to one exchange.

Hi, is it a known issue with this router? You seem very sure about it.

Anyway would reflashing fw work?

But I was able to hit 900 on this cable before, I find it hard to believe that because the cable is low quality the throughput can suddenly just drop to fixed 100mbps over a period of past time

If its me I would check on the drivers of the NIC and check if any settings that might deactivate 1gbps link speed is set, and rollback drivers if its caused by recent update.

Of course, try with a different cable too.

You can try to reflash the fw as sometime it works. If can not then send it down. The setting will not suddenly run for no reason as it was working fine earlier. By default, in most cases, it is set to auto and by right no problem at all.

isolate the problem by switching out different parts of the chain.

e.g.
remove router from the picture by connecting direct to ONT
switch out the cable
switch out the computer used
i'll even switch the power plug just to be sure

:p

or you got blacklisted by the ISP.

During cable broadband time with starhub. 1 home is sharing 1 starhub account and we're heavy downloader. Then after few month, the download go to around 5 KBps on 15 Mbps plan ONLY IF 2 or more download thread applied.

Then another person sign up new account with starhub. Same point of connect. No issue with his account. The router is OK when we switch. So it's the modem is blacklisted or broken.

It's possible, I encountered this before, used a cat 5e cable, it was able to hit my connection speed of 300mbps, but then all a sudden become 100mbps flat out, changed to a cat 6 cable my speed back to normal again, so it's obviously a cable issue.
