Hi all,

I have 2 laptops which I am looking to trade in, both of which are spoilt and unable to boot up at all. However, I managed to retrieve the hard disk for one which can still work when I connect it to my PC as an external hard disk.

I am concerned about vendors retrieving all my old data after trade in and would like your kind advice:

1. Does the laptop store data/memory anywhere else apart from the hard disk? If not, does it make sense to just remove the hard disk and trade in the entire laptop without doing anything else?

2. Will the trade in value drop significantly if I remove the hard disk? If so, for the one which the hard disk is still working, how can I erase all the data completely such that it is no longer recoverable? Do I connect it to my PC and use tools like DBAN? I'm worried such tools will erase all the data on my other internal hard disks on my PC as well.

3. What is the avg trade in value for old laptops?

Thanks and Regards

Once harddisk is taken out, data will be in your harddisk, unless your laptop is with multiple storage, e.g SSD + harddisk.

Depending on your model, there will definitely be some price difference without the harddisk.

To erase data, it is quite easy to identify which is the harddisk that you want to erase. Shouldn't be a problem. :)

There is no such thing as avg price for old laptops. It totally depends on your brand, model and condition of your laptops.

Hope it helps! :)

Cheers

Thanks for your reply! Sorry I'm really quite an amateur at this, but how do I find out whether my laptop has multiple storage? I dismantled it and could only find the hard disk
