Help with LGA 775 board

Theres no ssd or hdd attached to it, just the usb boot drive containing ubuntu and a usb keyboard

hmmm... how about trying with another usb drive or recreate your ubuntu? or use win installer..

mm i dont see how it would help thou as the point of failure is at accessing the boot menu and not booting from the drive

i understand where you are coming from. however, are you able to access inside the bios? as sometimes, if the boot device has errors, it might cause the POST to get stuck for a long time.

Yea prolly i will just pair my E8300 with this asrock board and pair the asus p5e3 with Q8300

Thanks for the post screen. Your bios version is 0.271, which is the evaluation version (ie, before production), the initial release is 1.00, which can support your E8200, and for your Q8300, you need to use version 1.20. So, I believe the 0.271 version (Year 2006) is for the old Pentium4 Prescott only cpu, like the 530 or 630 etc, that's why you have problems booting/running those dual/quad core cpu. If you can bootup with the E8200, try to update the bios to 1.20 version (or at least the 1.00).

My asrock am2 board also has the pre-production version, 0.30 whereas the initial release is 1.00

If you have problems let me know, I need to search through my storeroom for the prescott cpu and can lend it to you for bios updating. Remember to set the FSB1 FSB2 FSB3 to its default position.
