Hi guys, I'm thinking of selling my old rig to a friend and getting a new one.

My budget is around $2000, excluding monitor and peripherals.
Mainly for gaming, expecting great titles ahead.

Was thinking of getting a gtx1080 unless convinced otherwise. Price difference for some gtx1080 vs 1070 seems very small to not consider that upgrade.

Would love to hear some suggestions from you guys. Cheers!

Wow really nice budget you have there. For choice of GPU, it depends on what is the resolution of your monitor or resolution you are going to play your games at?

If at 1440p, 60fps, a 1070 is good enough. But if you are willing to invest on a 1080, top up a little bit more for a 1080ti instead.

1070 to 1080 is a little bit more but 1080 to 1080ti is not a little bit more lol.

Yes get the 1080, best value card now.

Selling off my current rig and I'm always on my PC during my free time, feels like a worthy investment to me haha.

I guess I would be upgrading my monitor as well, so probably 1440p 60fps. I just feel that that $100 difference for 1070 and 1080 might be worth spending. I'm not good with numbers though so not entirely sure.

Any recommendation for the remaining parts?

CASE: Phanteks Eclipse P300 TG $99
MOBO+CPU: MSI Z370 Gaming Plus + Intel i5-8400 $468
RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB 2666MHz DDR4 16GB Kit $249
PSU: EVGA GD 550W $109
SSD: Samsung Evo 850 250GB M.2 $159
HDD: WD Blue 1TB $72
GPU: Gigabyte GTX 1080 Windforce $815
OS: Windows 10 Home $12 via Carousell

TOTAL: $1983

Prices quoted from PC theme or otherwise stated.

Need to add a few more fans into the build as the chassis only come with 1x 120mm fan. Factor that into the cost + discounts would land you at 2k mark.

Now got online sales, check out qoo10/lazada threads to see what deal is worth getting online.

Sent from PM me if you wanna build a DIY PC or wanna learn how to make one yourself :D using GAGT

Wah.. going down pcthemes this Saturday leh.. wonder if they still have stocks for i5 8400

Lazada have stock @ $292

http://www.lazada.sg/intel-core-i5-8400-28-ghz-9mb-cache-lga1151-65140538.html?ff=1

If you have Citibank card, can use the citi1010 code for $30 off $200, so you'll need to pay only $262 for i5-8400

:s13::s13: Maybe I didn't phrase it properly. I bought the MSI Gaming Plus + I5-8400 last sunday and there was still stock for the I5. Didn't expect it to run out so fast (if what raysusan said was true).

Try Cybermind or Bizgram. I believe they received the initial stock of coffeelake processors.
