Help with Superflower PSU/Graphics card

Hi. First post here - long time lurker. Thanks so much in advance for all your time and help...

I have an oldish PC. Bought a new graphics card which takes an 8 pin pcie connector. However, discovered that I don't have the spare cables which came with my PSU.

I do need to install the graphics card to run multiple screens for WFH.

Called shops in SLS. First shop says no can do for spare cables, have to buy a new PSU

Second shop (fairly reputable) says that yes have spares, and directs me to Phanteks or Texware Flex PSU Extension cable

Both being extension cables, I am completely confused. So a few questions

1. Would these cables really work with the proprietary connectors on the superflower PSU?

2. If they won't what route do I have available out of this - anywhere I can source the cables ASAP OR

3. Do I need to change my PSU?

4. If I need to change PSU - any way of buying a relatively cheapish one and just running the graphics card off the second PSU rather than having to rewire the entire PC?

5. I bought the Powercolor AXRX 570 card. The site said min PSU needed is 450w, and mine is 550w - should be sufficient right? Wouldnt be doing any heavy duty gaming or movie watching. Just work and light entertainment

Be much appreciated if you can guide me. Looking to minimize the additional costs here

Extension cable are use to extend your current cables (Which you are short of)

Can look at carousell for people selling used psu of the same model

Best to just buy a new psu

possible but it also means the 2nd psu will be outside the case and you will need a opening somewhere to plug in the 8 pin, you will also need a Dual power supply adapter. which means 2 power source needed to boot the computer and do consider for fire hazard

end of the day just buy another new psu and replace your existing one, safer, easier.
just bring your whole system down and pay for the labor of changing the psu + the psu

It has a random 9 pin proprietary connector. That's what is causing me the pain...

The 9pin proprietary cables on psu side is just a fanciful kind of connector. Nothing to be really afraid off. Ultimately they are just the same as any other psu with just a different connector. Hence you can buy any ext psu cables to currently extend your current cable lengths.

However from the looks of it, you are trying to connect to a new gpu but you do not have the psu cables to do so right?

If that is the case, try asking tech dynamic if they do have pcie power cable for your psu model.

And I think an added trouble is that my PSU is old and probably last generation. Even super flower seem to have changed their power connectors and have moved away from the 9 pin connector...

Wish i could find someone to come home and install the PSU for a fee

Do you have two unused molex or SATA connectors from the PSU?

I don't have any cables from when I bought the psu with me unfortunately... Otherwise I could have found a workaround... Never realized that I would need the cables again so probably just threw out the whole box...

The simplest solution would be to get another graphics card (perhaps off carousell). For your stated usage of multi monitor with no gaming, you don't need a graphics card that requires additional power connectors. Perhaps a nvidia 1650. Then sell off your 570 card on carousell to cut loss.

Thanks - thought about the graphic card swap, but ultimately the cost differential in both the transactions will be roughly similar to getting a new PSU

You need to use the cables that come with ur psu. I had the same assumption that it works when i change to superflower and tried to reuse the existing cables in the drives from old psu. It will not work.

I went to SLS - visited PC Care and Solutions / Nigel. Messaged him beforehand about my issue. Went there - he had a dead Superflower PSU, ripped out a cable, and installed my GPU instantly... Phew!
