Just to wrap this up - in case it is of help to someone else.
Through windows settings, I managed to direct the audio streams individually for the apps which are working.
My Spotify outputs to the speakers and the Citrix workspace (and all associated engines/media routines) output to the headset.
As such, the disconnects I was facing have now been rectified. Quality is still a bit compromised versus when I used this in the office, but that's a small price to pay for the utility I get.
