PLEASE HELP? First time to Hokkaido. Going in July.

Budget 7.5k for 2 pax.

No head no tail. Do abit of research and see where you want to cover, how many days, what kind of accomodation, driving or public transport, inclusive of airtickets or not.

Every place only stay 1 night or at most 2? Can be quite tiring having to pack and move frequently.

For such a short trip, maybe drop wakkanai... It is all the way to the north. Gonna be quite a lot of traveling.
And every other day change accom will be quite tiring and time consuming

PLEASE HELP? First time to Hokkaido. Going in July.

Budget 7.5k for 2 pax.

I suggest you go do some home work and not coming in without details and hoping people will give you everything.

Suggestion:

1. Scout through the threads for itineraries already posted
2. Look for trip reports posted
3. Then decide where you want to fly in to: Hakodate or Sapporo
4. What do you like?
5. What you intend to see and do.

With all the above information, then people here will be able to help better.

By the way, there's a 'search' function in this forum, just choose the Japan sub-forum to search

Please DO NOT do this unless you are absolutely sure that the JR pass will cover your trips fully. Check hyperdia for the fares of the routes that you are taking first. Obviously you will need a rough itinerary before you can check. So please, draft an itinerary first before thinking about anything else.

JR pass can wait. The JR pass exchange voucher only has a 3 mth validity anyway. And I've never heard of JR pass "running out" or OOS. There's is NO hurry to get a pass when one doesn't even have the itinerary yet.

TBH I don't recommend going to tour agencies to get their brochures for recommendations when it comes to Hokkaido. Hokkaido is huge and the attractions are spread rather far apart and the really nice ones are mostly quite inaccessible unless you have your own transport. Tour agencies have buses that bring you to those attractions but if you are going f&e, you'll find that it's rather difficult to take public transport to those places due to the infrequent bus timings. Meticulous planning will be required.

Best to head to Japan-guide instead. The time required to the attraction via public transport is usually stated there. They sometimes will also state the frequency of public transport as well. If you see something that says infrequent buses are available etc, then just drop it and look at some other attractions.

For public transports, this hyperdia website is a must to access the trains on timing & which platform to wait for the train you are taking. Certain timing the trains are cheaper or more direct too, very practical website recommended by Kongsongice previously.

can fly in to Sapporro then go to Susukino 5 shopping mall, 狸小路 5 there has an official Japan tourists info centre, whereby some attractions have lots of discounts if buy the tickets from them. Provided you also do an online search where you want to visit.

Can also search via individual area tourism offices’ official websites. I found my nature guide and his lodge for my Hokkaido winter trip last Feb to see flying squirrels and Steller’s sea eagles..
