Because no time to plan and go with parents and kids. So would like to ask for advise which travel agent and package can consider. Search online that people suggest JAL but too pricy for me. So now consider like CTC, Chan Brother and Hong Thai. Is better there is not much those shopping trip like honey, cosmetic etc. Thanks first.

The problem with many of these non Jap agencies is that they take u to Chinese restaurants. I tried one of the agencies you mentioned below and was disappointed with the included meals.

compulsory shopping is unavoidable. for hokkaido, typically they will bring u to tidbits shop, which is actually ok since the price is the same everywhere for things like kitkat, pocky etc.

u can check with the agency how many meals are chinese food. although nowadays i think it is less of an issue coz even the older folks who join package tours wants to eat local food instead of chinese food. and for those nights where u stay in ryokans, likely to be japanese meals provided at the ryokan

You will miss all the real fun in Hokkaido if u join group tour.

Drive in Hokkaido, its Super Easy!

The most scenic places in Hokkaido is in east, just pick a guide book from library or bookstore. If u can read chinese, taiwanese forum 背包客栈 has plenty of info, Taiwanese visit japan like their 2nd home ! Ive learned alot from info they provided

TS already mentioned he is travelling with parents and kids and has no time to plan so F&E is actually out (unless he has say a few weeks to sit down and plan)

It depends on what you actually wants. If a tour package is cheap, what you experience will be cheap (eg. rushing, quality of food etc)

I suggest setting up a budget that is above what the local tour agencies could give you, then go to JTB or HIS and see if they have something like that, or maybe a shorter but more quality trip for the same price.

I agree that both of these agencies are reputable and good as they are actually Japanese companies.. so no chinese food for sure....

JTB and HIS all well known travel agency inside Japan. Quite reputable.
JTB is the biggest by a huge margin in Japan.

https://jtb.com.sg/group-tours/
http://his.com.sg/category/packages/group/winter/

The price not cheap but quality is good compared to local agency give cheap hotel, cheap food.
Those HIS, JTB can cost 4k and above.

There is also Prime Travel/ Follow Me Japan. Very good service and itineraries, take you to local eateries and stay at high quality ryokans/hotels. They are not cheap but feedback I've heard is very good. They say they do not earn commissions from local shopping. I checked out their self-drive tours and didn't yet book with them but considering to take my parents next year. I am fine to do my own self drive (did before) but with older parents I prefer to have agency support in case they get sick or need some medical assistance. Self drive instead of the coach version so we can do our own thing. But the agency will provide all the recommended sights and eateries along the drive from location to location. Also provide local handphone so you can call the guide if you need help.

aint that bad la, many years ago, I went with Hongtai, and we only had one chinese dinner on the 1st night, other than that, it was all japanese, some not bad too. Most importantly is really depending on the local guide when you arrive, we were fortunate to get a singaporean guide living in sapporo, no pressure compulsory shopping at all.
