Am staying in a 4BR HDB EA. All 4 bedrooms are wired with LAN cable link to a LAN socket from the hall where the main router is located.

Am currently using Singtel 1GB broadband plan.

My current setup as follows:-
Hall - Optical Network Router and Singtel WIFI GB Router AC Elite
All 4 bedrooms wire to LAN socket connected to 4 x Singtel WIFI GB Router AC Plus as AP
Hall - TV, Phone and MIO set
Master BR - 1 TV, 1 PC, 1 Laptop and 2 mobiles
BR 2 - 1 TV. 1 Laptop and 1 mobile
BR 3 - 1 TV. 1 PC, 1 Laptop and 1 mobile
BR 4 - 1 TV, 1 PC, 1 Laptop and 1 mobile

Have recontract with Singtel with 1+1 GB Asus RT-Ax860U WIFI 6 Gaming Router
Planning to wire 1 GB Game Lan direct wired to the master room and the other 1 GB split to 3 rooms AP routers.

My question is
1. Should I maintain all my 4 x AP routers in my room or get 4 x Singtel mesh extender AC2600?
2. Does the 4 x AP routers supports WIFI 6
3. Any other better options for such home network setup for faster speed.

I think 4 APs in a 4BR is overkill. Might want to share your house layout for better advise.

You might want to move away from "Singtel" branded routers/AP if you are planning to upgrade, don't waste your money.

You will need AX routers for Wifi 6.

4* APs that are probably broadcasting at full power is definitely overkill for a 4 room apartment of any kind, unless your walls are so good at attenuating the signal that signal doesn't leak out of your room.


Why do you want to upgrade, any issues you're experiencing in particular? Or you just want to upgrade because you got money?(That's fine too, we all like shiny things)


Also will like to add that a 1Gbps connection is overkill for normal use, unless you have very specific use case such as a torrent box that's constantly saturating the connection, then by all means go ahead and get another fibre service for better QOS if you really must. If all you're doing is surf HWZ, watch youtube and netflix, a 1Gbps connection is more than enough.


If you're experiencing connection issues in your current setup, it's probably not because you're saturating your connection, unless you're running a torrent box that saturates your connection 24/7/365.

Most Routers are capable of being configured for used only as an Access Point (AP) disabling the Router Routing function. Some peoples tend to type them as AP Router but should be understandable as mentioned above.

There are dedicated APs available without Router function that cost lower.

Are there any issues/problems you are facing with the connection?

listing those would help in suggestions to resolve them.

other info eg floorplan, location of the router and APs will also help.

I think what TS is trying to ask is this. All his room wall outlet is with a RJ45 socket. All these outlet are connected to the living room router. Since it's wired in all his room, he is only able to connect to a device that has a lan port (example laptop or desktop). He wanted to extend this usage with wi-fi capability at each room, so that all his mobile devices in each room will reach out to this AP instead of reaching out the living room router (to prevent signal lost or weak signal)

@TS, you might want to get a AI Mesh set from Asus or maybe ask bros here to recommend you cheaper alternative.

to clarify, you have all 4 AP in one bedroom?

if true, layout/positioning and power control (not sure if possible on the "AC Plus" APs) will already help a lot.
plus, wired connections to ensure higher speeds, lower latencies.



that said, the gurus here will need more info on layout, positioning etc, in addition to the preivously asked questions on what is the problem(s) seen, how the network is used (games, downloads, WFH activities etc), and where the performance is lacking, before realistic suggestions can be given.

1, since u already have 4AP no point spend additional $ on the mesh. the AP will do find.
2. the 4 AP are not wifi 6. AC router/ AP are wifi 5. AX are then wifi 6
3. set QOS on the main router ie the one connected to the optical terminal. some router are able to allocate x bw for the devices, some able to prioritise the traffic. some routers could be simple and need set specific ports and ip to prioritise the traffic. then your device u need to prioritise will have to set static ip.

if you are on PC gaming use cable directly. u might want to test all the point to check the max speed achievable.
