You use all your retirement money to buy 1 stock only? 100 lots = $230000 Why not spread the money among different stocks?

Isn't it too late to comment. Anyway he could hold on to the shares like FD to get the 'good' dividend yield every year.

Still not too late. My advice to him would be to diversify and not just hold $215k of HLF. Its still not too late to diversify. Not many people can sleep comfortably at night with their entire retirement savings in one single stock?

The wrong thinking is 'since i bought it, i'll just hold onto it' (aka 'sunk cost fallacy').

A lot of high yield, defensive stocks suffer sudden drop on Friday, you are not the only one who suffered.

How come your post sounds like an advertorial on the importance of buying a retirement "savings" plan? :s13:

You lost $15k only...no big deal la, there are others who got bankrupt...suggest you just buy STI ETF and SG Govt bonds (ES3 and A35) in a mix of 50 : 50...less worries

"friend said so" is always a valid reason for making 6-figure investment decisions

Trust your friend, he'll never be wrong :)

So he should realise some loss and diversify? He might lose even more.

The way I see he must have considered very carefully before dumping that sum on a single stock for a consistent annual dividend yield of more than 4%. If he sticks to it, unlikely he will suffer capital loss in the long term as HLF dividend has been consistent for many years. The chances of the price going up is much higher that going down in the long term as the current price is historically low.

Hi......

Many times when we sell,

The stock price goes up again.

Many times when you hold,

It drop further.

Another frd told me.... sell all and bet on foot ball Euro 2016.

Leave in the bank ... 1.5%

Hard life for common people like me to retire.

Look like many have to work like cows n horses ,
While some Big Shot's get more than $2 to $3 million a year.

To me....,Rolling stones gather no moss.

Is like if you buy TOTO or 4D, buying 100 sets will still depend on luck.

Instead of buying $1 on 50 no, why not buy $50 on 1 no ?

You will burn money faster if your number does not even appear in 1st prize
