So anyway I was just watching Ozzy Man video on his kidney stone operation and he mentioned that he did not go for medical checkup to ensure he had no pre-existing medical conditions with his insurer when he bought his hospitalisation insurance 12 months ago.

This got me thinking, when I bought my hospitalisation plan with NTUC Income Enhance Incomeshield, I did not go for any full body checkup to verify I am completely healthy. I cannot remember exactly why, but why is there no requirement to do so? How does any insurer know whether their policyholder has pre-existing condition if they don't require their them to undergo full body checkup?

To save time and cost, insurance companies will only check the medical history when there is a claim.

They based it upon that customer and agent discussion on whether there are any pre-existing.

In times of claims, should there be pre-existing, they will judge it base on the medical reports they can retrieve from the health institutions, along with the your own doctor's report.

So if your doctor says that this illness is suspected to have developed before your policy inception date.. then likely not claimable.

This is necessary to prevent false claims.

To be honest i think there are pros and cons towards this and if you think about it, i don't think you will want to go through the full check up everytime you sign up for insurance protection.

Just be careful because you never know if insurance will actually pay you when the time comes even for little things that you've seen doctor for.

BTW, you don't get back the premiums you paid even if insurance turn down your claim.

Yes correct. If you do not have any records you should be pretty safe.

Unless in the event something happens, the doctor write until the illnesses is suspected to have developed since XXXX year and your policy inception was after.
