i got a new Crucial BX500 480GB running in a laptop and the temperature is hitting 60DEG just watching videos and downloading stuff. is it normal? i got the temperature off the Crucial Storage Executive app.

my previous NVME running on the desktop never seem to touch 60DEG. that had a fan near it thou.

Nothing wrong with crucial ssd, labtop cooling is not as good as desktop.

I believe the temps are still within safe range. I don't own a BX500, but I suspect the casing is plastic, which does not help to conduct heat out.

yup confirmed plastic. glad to know its within. SMART flagged orange warning. thats y alil concerned.

If you use those NVME SSDs, the temps can go much higher under sustained load. I've stucked some heatsink on mine, and under load (for about minute or so) it maintains around about 60+ as well.

Many people think SSD generate less heat as it has no moving part. This is not true. In fact it is quite hot due to density of component packed in small area (especially those M.2, MSATA type).

Sticking some kind of heatsink is even more risky as it may drop of if this is a laptop or portable pc.

So keep the PC with well airflow is most important.
