if don't hide, who else might take?

sometimes, just pass directly to them. if not many rooms on one floor, it was be that person cleaning those few rooms or that whole floor that day.

Other hotel staff ah?

Anyway, I give about 40-50 baht.

Sent from using GAGT

the reason why guest started to keep tips for house maid under the pillow was so that other staff etc front office / engineering who enter the room before the house maid would not see the tip and take it for their own.

but honestly many people tip the house maid and bell boys. people should actually start to tip the receptionist if you get a nice room on the top floor etc those are all up to the receptionist to allocate the room. just my pov.

after all how good my room and my free upgrade also depend on them. not anyone else.

And so everyone spoil the bellman and house maid because most of you all tip them and would be making it a habit of expecting house guest to tip them when it's not a must to tip???

Dont have to be a regular guest to have friends who are management of hotel. There i got friends who are also front office manage and general manager of hotel which i had never stay with before. I tip based on service not friendship.

i did not ask how u become friend to them... i was saying u r fren to them, of cos u can get a free upgrade based on friendship but again, if they can easily give upgrade to their own friends will they being questioned by the mgmt abusing the benefit?

usually free upgrade is based on the service recovery or for some reasons etc... unless u r a staff in the hotel chain then it is the different story

it is not a "MUST" rule to tip.... but it become a norm to tip them in thailand...i see the situation to tip... it is all depend in individual to tip..

i hv a colleague who went bkk with his wife, seldom go thailand too.. he told me he didnt tip when after massage, i was like????

well i didnt say its wrong, perhaps he is not aware of the culture...

Another fren who went with wife for massage, can tip 200Baht after massage... that is very generous.. he was happy with the massage

its really upto them... if they are happy, then they feel like, just tip them accordingly...
