I guess because average chinese is generally not that poor compare to 20 years ago. Many more opportunities in own country plus more woman tends to be educated and independent therefore not marrying plus bad man vs woman ratio. Quite similar to Singapore except ratio.

i hate those from the north like harbin, beijing, shanghai. open mouth talk like got food stuck in the throat. they are native mandarin speakers but speak mandarin worse than sinkie. i prefer mandarin spoken by taiwanese

Think those from north tend have the (for lack of better words) 北京腔调. Cannot really get use to. They also have their own lingo for words. Its like the Liverpool scouse speak only themselves can understand. And when they speak mandarin, think the mandarin also heavily influence by that. So can be harder to understand also.

Think SH to them they also consider as south already. But not that south. Still the SH language also one kind. Perhaps only they themselves can understand.

Maybe only those from the really south, like fujian and further. Heck even GD with the cantonese accent think as sound ok. Since most the immigrant last time also tend come from this southern region. Thus think more here are ok with the language perhaps. Cause alot more in common.
