How come people in USA seems to be heavily in debt due to student loans but not in SG?

Maybe its juat my circle, but so far I dont know a single sinkie who paid their own uni fees. Every single one of my relatives and friends all paid by Lao bei lao bu so that settles it. However, in US after 18 the parents wont pay for them, so up to them to foot the bill.

When a kid go to college that isn't community college. The kid leave the parents house and live in campus even if the parents home is next to the college.

There are thousands of colleges in the USA. Kids picking a college takes lots of effort because there so many to choose from.

They cannot choose to not live in campus?

They can live outside of campus.

The thing about US Universities is they are one of three major institutions (church and bars are the other two) for young adults to find a mate. Find your future wife or husband while studying and living in the university.

Living in college also provides better networking. One of my friend kids is at studying at Brown University. He is now friends with some of the richest kids in the world. He still in his first year in college and want to start a hedge fund with his rich friends. Lololol

It also allows young adults to experience independent. To figure out what they want in life without their parents guidance. It also to celebrate their youth, ie partying.

Public Unis in USA are also very expensive? Or is many americans ownself backside itchy go private Uni? Or are they just bad at managing money?

Coz parents here expecting their kids to lie flat after uni. Got many of my frds raise kids like Prince and princess... And try to save alot money for them.
