Sent my AIO acer pc to the service centre for servicing.
Warranty just over, so they say need service charge of 50+ excluding parts.
So bo pian I agreed.

Then when they called me for update today, I asked if they can add in more ram as well.

They quoted 40 for 4gb or ram which I though still OK but then need to pay another 80 for labour.

But I'm already paying the 50+ service charge do I need to pay extra for labour just to put in ram ?

I don't think it's advisable to DIY since its an AIO Pc. Unless you're really experienced then go ahead. :s13:

For AIO's, usually the RAM slots and HDD are very easily accessible, basically like laptop but desktop version.

You can see vendors upgrading rams for AIO's at PC shows all the time.

Just curious, you're sending it in for servicing because there's some problem, or you're just sending in for regular maintenance?

The price for ram is about market price, but for $80 just to install a ram stick is the biggest daylight robbery ever. For that extra $80 you can get 8GB more of RAM already.

I think you need to clarify first if the $80 is inclusive of repairing or replacing the faulty part plus installing RAM or just installing RAM, and also whats the problem that made you send it in.

Oh. Maybe it's been made more accessible now. I remember Lenovo had a model which was almost impossible to change unless you open the whole thing up.

Problem that I send it in is some problem with display card and possible display driver problem.

At first they say may need to change hard disk / display card or even the screen but will call me first before changing.

Today the technicle people called but cannot get me and left a message and say to call back and say only need to format and reinstall windows cos just corrupted windows problem. And if that's the case should only need to pay for service charge of 50 plus.

So I ask the CSO when I call back see how much they will charge if I ask them to install extra ram as well.

And I was quoted 40 for ram plus 80 for labour.

Have they done the reinstalling of Windows?

If not try and ask them if can dont do and take it back without paying for anything, I can help you do both for way much cheaper than that.
