what kind of policy will not allow a person to delete accounts? Even a person can renounce citizenship.

Due to security reasons that won't be elaborated further, we have to maintain a strict policy of not deleting accounts. When you signed up for a HardwareZone account, this was part of the Member's Terms of Service.

Actually quite funny...even Facebook such a big corporation allows account deletion.

HWZ cannot...

Actually, no. SPH's terms & conditions state:

4. Suspension and Termination of Account:
4.1 You agree that SPH has the right in its sole and absolute discretion and without notice to:
4.1.1 restrict, suspend, or terminate your access to all or any part of the Services; and/or
4.1.2 terminate, deactivate or suspend your Account, delete your Account and all related information and files in your Account, without assigning any reason. Without prejudice to the generality of the above, SPH reserves the right to deactivate your Account if it has been inactive for a period of six (6) months or more, or if you are in breach of any of our Website Conditions or these Member Conditions or if SPH believes that you have been using the Account for unlawful and/or undesirable activities.
4.2 You agree not to hold SPH liable or responsible for any loss or damage incurred by you arising out of or in connection with the suspension and/or termination of your Account.

It is no where clarified that members are unable to delete their accounts on their own behalf after registration, all that's said is that SPH reserves the right to delete accounts without further notice, which I agreed to. At no point did I agree to give up the right to close down my account.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but if this is legally part of HWZ's Terms of Service, one might call it negligent misrepresentation.

I think you may have misunderstood. It clearly states "... has the right...". It does not mean that it will be exercised. The policy is not to terminate any account as such. This will also allow continuance for conflict resolution, should any occur.

Instead, of deleting the account, one can simply not log in. If there's nothing to hide, the latter is a simple solution.

Yes, I understood that well. I understand their policy and it's all neat and fine as long as they clearly inform you about it before registration. This isn't about questioning their security measures or having sth. to hide or not (or just about deleting their account for that matter), but about keeping terms of a contract (concerning the use of personal data) hidden from the other party.
If they have to have this policy, they should make sure to clearly write it into their terms & conditions. Anything else isn't just wrong, but vulnerable on a legal basis as well.

Dear Member,

Thank you for your feedback. We will take this into consideration for HardwareZone's member registration process when we revise it in the future.

Dear Member,

A user with a deactivated account can still access his PM box, but cannot post in the forums. Banned members are barred from logging in.

Dear mods, deactivation means what? Will posts still show? How about pban?

Dear Member,

Your account will be automatically be deactivated after 6 months of inactivity.

I just realised i couldn't delete this account as i don't like my user ID, my first registration was in 2001. I wonder why i even register it. And many many many years later... I log in tonight, my account is not deactivated. :s11:
