How do you determine a dead pixel?

Today while playing my phone. I saw a black dot on top of the screen. Not sure if its a dead pixel or just a dust under the screen protector.

Any idea how to i determine if that dot is just a dust or dead pixel? If its a dead pixel, can i bring it back for exchange? I am thinking that they will not entertain me for just a single dead pixel right? It got to have at least more than x number of dead pixel. Am i right?

Haha i dont want to remove cuz it will be a chore for me to paste it back again cuz i suck at applying screen protector. Is there any other way to determine? For example an app to help test screen or setting the screen to black colour or other colour?

You can test your screen but regardless you will still see a black spot there. Only way to tell if it is dirt or dead pixel is to remove the screen protector and run the test.

what abt shut down yr phone then shine a light and try to see if its dust. have to move yr phone to see? if its not then probably dead pixel ba

from what i see, it most probably not a dust...cant see the dot under bright light. In contrast i have another dust at other area under the screen protector which i can see..But the black dot is so small that it is hardly noticeable.

Just wondering if I could get this changed with telco? Anyone have similar experience?

if it's a dust, live with it. I've changed my 5s because of dead pixel and ended up with more problems. I've changed almost 5 sets at the counter before getting a good one.

And the good one now i discovered another problem but lazy yo go back change again.

seems like apple is giving problematic sets to telcos to change.

if its a dust, i definitely can live with it as there are few dust under screen protector ...

However if it is a dead pixel, it is different cuz its a defect to me.

BTW how many dead pixel did you have on your phone when you went for an exchange? And you really have the patience to check 5 sets on spot sia....

i had 2 dead pixels. apple policy for iphone is even 1 dead pixel they will change.

2nd set had problem with the compass.

3rd set had 1 dead pixel.

can't remember 4th set.

my 5th set which is now what I'm using, i discovered the home button got squeaky sound. but lazy go change anymore. just live with it.

just called M1...the CSO asked me to go down paragon or 313 for exchange. He kept stressing that the exchange will not be a new set...so fast iphone 5S got replacement set liao ah?

Why not? See the reply above you. He changed almost 5 sets. The previous sets are send back to re-condition then give as replacement.

haha actually i dropped the idea of going paragon to change...but i saw your post... make me want change my mind. And yes you r right. Once seen, cannot be unseen. I tend to look at the dead pixel area.... its like a thorn in the flesh la

hope it is dirt... will do it tonight probably to confirm again...but once i remove screen protector... it will take me ages to apply it back again cuz i m lousy at it

but then again i dont think it is dirt cuz i google for pics for dead pixels in iphone...their dead pixel is exactly same as mine....
