How do you explain price differences like this?

Looking at buying the ASUS 280X, noticed this over on Newegg in comparison to local GPU prices.

Sapphire 280X Vapor-X on Newegg: USD319
ASUS 280X DCUII TOP 3GB on Newegg: USD309

Sapphire 280X Vapor-X at SLS: SGD479
ASUS 280X DCUII TOP 3GB at SLS: SGD569


Is there any reason for price discrepancies like this or am I missing something? That is a massive price change for the ASUS card in comparison to the Vapor-X.


Also is there any way to buy stuff at US prices and ship to SG?

There is a way to ship. But Newegg do not ship to SG direct. Must use a forwarder. And the Sapphire 280X in SG is just 2 years warranty. I rather you go for Gigabyte 29 280X at $449 with 3 years warranty.

As for Asus in SG their pricing always remain all time high for being a premium brand.

The only brand that tries to follow suite for prices almost the same to amazon or newegg for the new AMD cards would be gigabyte. Not forgetting that you ship anything above $400SGD inclusive shipping fee then there will be 7% gst.

Just take a look at amazon and buy from there if they ship globally. Smelly smelly you save sgd100 even gst is counted in.

Local distro need to earn profit too. Their staff needs to be paid, rent needs to be paid. So they provide local warranty, take care of the RMA for you. I prefer gg down to distro and settle there instead of ship here and there.
But if they start to provide warranty coverage for items purchased oversea, den ill definitely buy frm amazon.

I bought Intel Mobos and RMA them before, local distro are definitely not worth the money you paid.
Really quite happy with Intel Mobo Warranty Service.
Most are a bunch of money suckers.
Just think about what they actually produce, to me they are just middle layer fat.
Silver lining is that there are still local distros who do not carrot consumers.

Totally agree. The resale value is not a lot better, but yet cost significantly more. The price discrep between local Asus graphic card and Amazon for example is probably the widest.

I do agree to some extent that local distros need to have some margin, but considering that at RRP, the distro should already be making some money. The mark up here is very high even after taking into consideration the 7% GST here. I think the recent GTX760 was a very good example since most distros reduced their RRP after people started to compare with the offers on Amazon and Newegg.
