I think Carousell is getting popular but I have no idea how it makes money. I spoke to some of the users. None of them tell me they pay Carousell. No matter what, lots of thanks to Carousell for their good work. I hope they survive and prosper for a long time to come.

Anyone knows how Carousell make money?

Startup strategy, exit after a few years for 8-9 digit payout, no need to be profitable.

Look at Snapchat.

Now they ask users to pay money to bump up their listing.

Same like any other tech startup,go look for VCs and angel investors and raise money.tell them it's the next Alibaba or Amazon, next year go for series B of fund raising, show them even bigger numbers and users, raise millions this time.the strategy is always the same,we are in the pre revenue stage, they are focusing on building up their user base before they start charging users for service.

I'm a seller on carousel though, but I hate it,the market size of singapore is extremely small compared to US Amazon where there's 360 million people, most sinkies aren't used to shopping online yet, they dunno what is PayPal,bank xfer, skrill,Bitcoin, paylah, all of them wants to meet up and cash and carry, like they afraid we gonna scam them out of a $10 or $15 item, imagine ur a seller and u sell 20 to 100 items a month....everytime sell one item have to leave the house once.....also I blame carousel for not focusing on the main payment methods on the site and logistics like amazon or eBay,starting a fulfillment center like amazon, instead they keep doing those pointless advertising.....i think the owners are clueless.if i got the money i would set up a competing site and crush them.....also sinkies are cheapo and cheapskates, they only shop on carousell because they want a good deal or bargain, like as though its some kind of pasar malam or flea market....hello wtf do u shop on amazon or aliexpress and try to bargain with the seller?

Once it becomes a platform. It can charge for premium listing. And or put in advertising. As per Alibaba main source of revenue.

no its not,its daft sinkies that thinks its a bargain website and makes it that way.

most of the time they dont even know what they are buying anyway, imagine if i put up a uncommon unknown made in china brand item or electronic for $25,some guy comes along and ask can cheaper?can give it to me for $20?im like ******,if i put up the item for $35,u wouldnt have been any wiser,so why the **** are u trying to haggle for a few dollars when u dont even know whats the actual price is anyway?in the end the guy still paid $25,sinkies just want to feel shiok over saving a few bucks.

sigh, its just a $10 ,$13 item just take it and **** off,wtf do i go to the hawker center and ask if i can have $1 off my nasi padang?u think what im selling u $1499 gucci bag and making lots of $$$$?

not sure what ur talking about, when did i mention being a mass seller and paying $0 fees.

carousell is going to fail because they dunno what are the essential foundations of a online ecommerce business, one is standardizing the payment method so all payments can be processed thru one or a few methods, and the payment method must be widely available and adopted by as many as possible, like nets or credit card or paypal or apple pay or visa pay etc etc....so customers will find it easy to shop and make payment......carousell has no mention of that at all or even what types of payment methods they support officially.

secondly is logistics, items and packages must be transported as quickly and efficiently between seller and buyer and must be able to handle any capacity or amount of traffic/mail.....how the **** can the owner waste time hand delivering a package one by one?do sinkies comprehend what is online shopping?imagine this is america, someone in wyoming orders an item from ur online amazon/ebay store, are u going to hop in ur car and drive 3000 miles from massachusetts just to deliver that package?there are sellers on amazon that do anywhere from $7 million dollars in sales to $70 million dollars.....i only do $300 sales a month, can u imagine if i do $30,000 sales and i have to hand deliver every ******* item?

You said it yourself you are a seller in Carousell.

This platform is not ideal for mass selling. Because most transactions are cash on deliveries type.

If I want delivery and credit card options, I will go to qoo10.

No. It's pretty much a site where you can bargain. You can ignore all chats and just say no neg no chats. Only by mail. People will know your pattern after a while.

carousell is mostly selling 2nd hand stuff so buyers like to bargain or even lowball.

as usual there will be kids and think they can earn a quick buck to lowball and sell high

carousell does not position itself similar to qoo10 or ebay or amazon, the market that they're tapping on is not quite similar

to accept payment by nets, credit cards, mobile wallets etc, there will be a cost, who is going to pay it? buyer? seller? same goes for the deliveries

so what is carousell aiming to be?the microscopic singapore version of ebay?

do u know how much revenues amazon made last year?137 billion dollars.

do u know how much revenues ebay made last year?8 billion.20 years ago in 1996 ebay was bigger than amazon, paypal was a powerhouse, now ebay is not even 1/15th of amazon.and george soros just split paypal away from ebay, ebay is essentially nothing more than an empty prawn shell floating in my prawn noodle soup.

do u know there are sellers on amazon that achieved 70 million dollars in sales and revenues?u think they do that selling their grandfather's sofa and their uncle's play boy magazines?

who the **** cares about the 2nd hand market, let the ah peks and uncles of the black theives market and karang guni take care of that.99 percent of the stuff i sell is shipped from china....the money is in China.

Don't **** too much watching sci-fi movies.

They don't need to be like Alibaba, Amazon or eBay. They just need to be themselves and profitable.
