How is NS food like?

Hello, so I'm going to serve next year and I got a mixed feeling of being excited and being in that ''haiz'' sort of feeling and so today I would like to ask about the food in Tekong. Clearly there would be at least few people who has certain allergies like peanut, orange, gluten etc etc, so would they manage there?

Also, how would breakfast, lunch, dinner be also? Break time?

The only 'break time' foods given by SAF is call night snack provided you have night training (in camp & outfield but may not for fieldcamp).

Honestly, don't give expectation of food in camp you'll b alright. Food is generally catered to given calories level as prescribed and as much as they try to make the food more palatable, well it's supposed to be a nutritious meal, period.

In essence, unlike units or formation, you only have about 10minutes to eat your chow. Reason being, you have 25-30 mins for meal time but when you have 200-300 men per company plus other BMTC companies coming for chow, ur q time will take very long. Granted, there are staggered timing for chow time but there's still hundreds of other people to queue for food, not to mention that CQ from outfield company coming in to take food, though now very rare .

Tekong food 50% of the time edible
Good days you can get bak kut teh, western, prawn mee, bryani for lunch.
Dinner is shiat on most days. Like really.
The fruits are surprising fresh though at least for most part of it.
Got dessert like yoghurt grass jelly ice Logan etc. ice cream is one week once. Of course not every meal like that la. Give & take.
Breakfast wise, I enjoy the breakfast. Even if don't like, you can always get bread at the side and slap it with Kaya & butter.
I have seen ppl eating 12 pieces of bread solo. That's how hungry you can be in tekong & how edible the food will be last of your concern.

Best to drink more plain water.

actually is nice to eat one....

just they prepare in large quantity.. .hence hard to control quality and taste

when the volume is low... quite nice to eat one

of cos.... like any restaurant/hawker.... it all depend on the staff cooking it

Once you get to Unit...
You'll def miss your meals in Tekong.

decent food but dont expect much...some do taste good and some portion are large...maybe see how big size u are

if u are hungry after a meal...can try eating some plain biscuits during your rest time... avoid those cup noddles or those salty snacks... since u get more thirsty and u need to top up water more often... and dont even know if they provided hot water to cook your cup noddles...

if u are used to aircon or need warm water to bath... endure it since so far none provided...

expect some mosquitoes...

All catering has been outsourced to Singapore Food Industries or NTUC Foodfare... heh heh (and maybe other vendors, if any?)

I'm quite easygoing with food and I thought during my time, it wasn't too bad, during BMT, after BMT and even in unit.

Only thing is when certain places serve more or less the same dish each day (i.e. salted veggie), it can get a tad monotonous loh.

Though you should declare all your food allergies, I think it won't hurt to still be vigilant about it in the stuff that you consume. Just in case, you know...

Tekong no other potable water source, other than tap. Even water cooler also same source as tap, though have a filter but who knows how clean it is. Just check that there's no weird stuff or water come out brown, can drink la.
