Hello! I just got accepted into UQ July intake and would like to make some friends! Any one else enrolling in July? Also, was wondering how is the public transport system in Brisbane. I would like to find accommodation within walking distance of the campus, but it seems near impossible!

When i went there to visit the bus stop near my cousin house only has 1 bus per hour dont know if its the same all over Brisbane, the bus is very expensive i think it was like 5 bucks from his house to a woolworth nearby and back.

Hi, I am going to UQ this July for my postgraduate.
I am wondering, how much money should I bring for the first time when i am travelling in? Anyone has any experience to share?

Thanks!

Stumbled across this thread by accident. I came to Brisbane to study 13 years ago. Now still living in Brisbane. Ask me any question about life in Brisbane.

I came here 13 years ago with 20k including school fees. 7.5k for tuition fees and 5k startup cost to buy barang barang. The rest became expenses. Now should be doubled. It lasted me for half a year.

Living expenses around 1k per month if you are renting shared house. It is very easy to find a rental room around sunnybank area. Go to ozyoyo bbs to check out the rental listing. All in Chinese because sunnybank is the Asian enclave. Around $120 per week for a room including utilities and internet. There is a direct bus 139 to UQ at short intervals from sunnybank, it goes directly onto busway which is very convenient.

No need to buy mattress. 5k will be enough. Buy mostly printer, bedsheet and other school expenses.

Don't find near uni unless you are very rich. They cost a bomb. Look for areas at sunnybank around $120 per week.

Yes some suburbs don't have good transport. 1 hour interval mostly on Sunday only. Usually poor transport suburb 30mins intervals. Need to know the timetable well. The buses will come on time. See where your suburb is, some buses go to city directly, but if you go opposite direction, can reach bus interchange in few stops, then it might be a better choice. Bus interchange has direct express to city via bus way non stop.

I am oz citizen now. I am an architect. It was through 189 because 457 was hard to convert to PR. It requires company sponsor. My company only willing to sponsor me 4 years 457 and extends 4 years when lapsed. So I apply 189 through ownself.

I got diploma, bachelor and master in architecture. 60 points applied in July 2012, and PR in dec 2012.

Not sure about the system now, I heard single has more points.

Study first. Don't think of working in oz. UQ is not easy to pass.
