How much can a taxi driver make per month?

Real answers please, I am considering becoming a part-time taxi driver to supplement my job. I'm not from IRAS or what.

Asking only cos I heard a taxi driver telling me he can make $4.5k per month. Dunno if he is telling the truth or trying to tua kang.

Another time, another taxi driver said that he can make around $3.8k per month. Still a respectable figure but quite a big difference between the two. So I want to know which is closer to the truth?

I would say most cab drivers do make a "decent" enough living.

but that is mostly due to driving 10hr shifts, having some stable customers and not taking much breaks.

the payoff is not that big if say you drive night shift and you shun the clubbing areas because you do not want drunk customers.

normally taxi drivers who earn that much also drive on weekends. which kinda makes it a 24/7 job.

the going rate for rent is like 140 a day (you pay in advance). Fuel you can get it cheaper at the depot (less than a dollar iirc).

if you like make a profit of more than 200 dollars a day for 30 days... you do the math.

a neighbour of mine who have retired and found it too boring (yeah... i know), took a taxi license. His daily aim was to earn 100 after expenses. He seemed to be able to hit his target quite easily.

a friend of my drive taxi just over the weekend.
He can make about $350 per weekend.
So there 4 weekend per month. He can easy make $1400 per month just drive taxi. He also work normal job mon to friday.
So easy he can earn from drving taxi and his job maybe more than $3.5k per month. FYI his wife is a full time housewife and with 3children.

Always remember, been a taxi driver you need to work for long hours in order to earn decent living. Please don't drive 3 hours and take 1 hour coffee break. Need to work hard in order to earn that much.

Because he take lot of booking call. Some even take advance booking call also.

The more enterprising and more hardworking taxi drivers do earn more. Largely because they have realized every minute without a passenger in your taxi while the engine is running is a minute wasted. I had a taxi uncle telling me he could earn around S$3000 to S$4000 a month after costs in the old days if he drives from 7am to 11pm.

Of cos, must be hardworking, less kopi-talk & chit-chats with fellow drivers, less mahjong sessions etc....

Want to piah to earn is one thing. But don't piah until tired tired, eyes cannot open, focus all lost liao then get into accident. So many innocent victims on the road.

But again they do not have mc, cpf, benefits, etc. Only have own time own target.

taxi drivers have to be at least 30 years old, have you reached this age?

Hardworking drivers earn more. Lazy ones earn less. $5k is real

Depends how they are willing to work. Some taxi driver drive like cannot see passengers waving for taxi then will earn lesser.

So generally at least 10hr/7days per week on the road plus maybe working nightshift. With no benefits. And some risk(accident, robbers, drunks, etc) especially at night. For them to earn that 5-6K is really not easy money.

Earning $4K to $5K is possible. You just have to drive longer and odd hours, and of course know where to find the customer.

If you are expecting half a day job during day time, then TKK la.

open car door - $3 liao...

if one day open 20 doors = $60.00 just picking up fee excluding taxi distance fee.

20 doors / 8 hours = 2.5 door/hr

which is quite possible as Singapore travel from Woodlands to Town requires 25-30mins on a smooth traffic.

Fare can reach $16-$18.

So one day 2 doors/hrs travel distance fee of $16 x 8 hours = $250+/day

$250 x 25 days (rest every sat/sun alt) = $6250.00

Minus the petrol (petrol discount) and rental... i think can hit $4000/month.

This is a base on my guess only... maybe lesser or more... idk.
