Let's say you are a seasoned trader (not expert), has consistent profits for years. Say you normally use about 20:1 - 50:1 leverage, how much capital do you think it's enough for you to quit your job and making a living trading forex full-time?

Are you trading it directly or via a broker?

It's cheaper if you go through a broker because of the leverage.

Direct trades: few millions required

broker: 100k.

Don't bother asking those people conducting 'Forex' seminars.

If you have a consistent edge, then you can figure out the amount of capital you need with considerations of how much you need for your expenses and how much to leave in the account for compounding and how much to set aside as buffer.

Go try trial account when you can earn more than your current salary than come and ask this question.

No head no tail, where he is starting?

No planning what your strategy?

Confirm die one. If so easy to do it full-time everyone don't need work liao.

Not forex trader here yet, I leverage with around $10k in my cfd account and managed to get enough income monthly so far.

With forex, it's possible with lesser capital, but the risk of losing it is much higher.

You really have to get rid of emotion, have no liability and no stress to have a higher success rate in trading.

You ought to have other passive income coming in to support day trading imo.

i think the question should be how skillful the trader is. Capital is not an issue. A trader can probably lose $1M in 5 days if he is really that lousy! So $1M is not enough for him.

If you are asking this question means you are not ready.

If you are asking for fun, it is ranging from about 50k to no maximum. They uses leverage for a double edged sword.

If you have been constantly trading, you would roughly know how much you need in capital to generate a constant flow of income with your strategy (trades).

According to the Sunday Times advertisement by one Kishore M, his trainee made $78,000 from $1,000. Perhaps start off with $1000? But one would have to fork out about $5000 first to attend the seminar to learn how to do that! :s13:

You will know how much capital you will need when you assess your risk appetite and your strategy . Its not about spending $5K for a seminar to learn , just like do you think you can master a language by attending a seminar?

SO lets say that I am a season trader that has consistent profits, meaning that you are disciplined . Since I have been earning profit for example 3 years, and maybe the 1st deposit is $2K, and it has rolled to $61,825 using 10% compounding effect. Wouldn't it make sense that your portfolio IS YOUR CAPITAL?

But all this doesn't make sense when you are playing forex. In order to be expert, I reckon 5 years of constant training.

So stop dreaming to do full time forex if you have not played for 5 years with good results and no passive income to support down times.

Actually, it is not impossible to make 78K from 1K, but but..what are the odds? And also we need to look at that 78K account, say 1 or 2 years later. Is it still at 78K or 6.08 million (78 x 78) or back to 1K? :s13:

Really irresponsible to sell others this kind of dream...

it can be as easy as abc if u just follow one technique and with proper risk management but the point is following strictly to it is the hardest sometimes, and to me i think 20k is a good sum to start with if u prove yourself with consistent profits for at least the last 24 months , and of course to realize that, some people already give up or blow several accounts, that y in the end 5% succeed not because 95% are lousy, but they just simply think its nt worth the effort

yes thats the ugly truth
majority will lose and minority will succeed

thats why ppl try to squeeze into the minority
just like squeezing into good school or win 1 mil toto

if you don't try , 0% chance
if you try, you may have 1% chance

Take commission etc away, someone has to lose $10 for another to win $10.

thats y u must be in a place where most ppl lose money to have the potential to earn more, if everyone win, where do your winnings come from? of course having said that, u must be willing to put in the time and work, and not pray for things to work out overnight:D
